Co-Founder & CEO @ GreenDeal | On the road to planting 100M trees by making companies build their own carbon credit portfolios
Paris Olympic Games have a clear goal of being sustainable and promoting environmental transition. On their webpage, they state: "In the face of the greatest challenge humanity has ever known, Paris 2024, the body organizing the world’s largest event, is stepping up to its responsibilities. The 2024 Games in Paris will be unlike any other Games in history as they will be both spectacular and sustainable. We encourage energy conservation, innovation, and creativity to develop new ways of working and bring about a new era in the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our goal is to halve the emissions arising in relation to the Games while offsetting even more CO2 emissions than we will generate. As the Games give us an opportunity to think bigger and see further, we want to help pick up the pace of the environmental transition in sports, regions, and major events." Do you think it's important for major events and sports organizations to do just that and have an environmental impact? #environment #innovation #future #sustainability

🌟Game Changer: #Paris2024 Olympics Takes Bold Strides Toward Sustainability 🌟 The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are making history on multiple fronts, both big and small. It's set to be the first Games ever to feature breakdancing (or "breaking") as a competitive event and to achieve true gender parity. But that's not all—Paris 2024 is also on track to become the most #sustainable Games to date, aiming to halve its carbon emissions compared to the averages of London 2012 and Rio 2016. This remarkable transformation has been years in the making, driven by the International Olympic Committee – IOC, based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IOC, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Games and the Olympic Movement, initiated this change through its Olympic Agenda 2020—a roadmap outlining its broader goals. Sustainability plays a central role in this vision. The IOC has committed to reducing its direct and indirect emissions by 50 percent by 2030. Additionally, all Olympic Games from here on out will strive to reduce carbon emissions and offset more than 100 percent of their residual emissions. Curious to learn more about these groundbreaking changes? Dive into this month's cover story by Jennifer Dienst. 📖🎧 #Olympics2024 #Sustainability #EventProfs #PCMAConvene #December2023 #CoverStory #PCMA

The countdown begins: In one year, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be here! As the Games unite us in celebrating the spirit of sport, let’s ensure they also contribute towards a more sustainable future. What if sports showed the way forward? What if Sports could play a vital role in this race against climate change and accelerate exponentially our collective ability to respond to these global challenges? This is our vision: sport as a force for good. Introducing the Sport Sponsors Climate Pledge, created in partnership with 17 Sport. For the first time, we’re connecting committed sponsors’ financial support to how well sponsored sport organizations reduce their carbon footprint. In the future, sporting events not aligned with the Paris Agreement won’t be sponsored. We’re already many taking concrete action: First signatories: EDF, Orange, Accor, and Sodexo Live! Supporting athletes: Nikola Karabatic, Virginie DEDIEU . OLY, Luka Karabatic, Laurence Fischer, Julien Pierre, Michaël Jérémiasz, Stan Thuret, and Benjamin Kayser Join us in transforming the world through sports for a brighter tomorrow! It's an exciting time in sports at the moment, with many world championships being held between now and the end of the year. That momentum will hit a high point in July 2024 when the world will gather for the Olympic Games. With climate change an ever-increasing impact on the planet, the environmental footprint of all sporting events is a valid concern that needs to be addressed, and events don’t come bigger than the Olympic Games. The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 are stepping up to this challenge more than any Games before. And they are doing so by focusing first and foremost on reducing emissions... but how? Some of the initiatives being implemented at Paris 2024 are: 🏅 Minimising on new construction (around 95 per cent of venues will be 🏅 Pre-existing facilities, refurbished and modernised, where necessary or temporary structures) 🏅 Venues have also been specifically chosen so they can be accessed by public transport. You can read more about the Paris 2024 Organising Committee plans here. https://lnkd.in/gp-BYPJJ While your organisation might not be running an event quite as large as the Olympic Games, you still might want to get going on reducing your own environmental impacts, but not sure where to start. If you’d like to chat about what you can do to reduce your sport-related emissions, please reach out to us at Sports Environment Alliance by following the link below: https://lnkd.in/g3uXFXUi #FIFAGoingBeyond #FIFAGoingBeyond #NoPlanetNoPlay #SEA_theChange #PlanetMatters #NoPlanetB #Sport #SportandClimate #ClimageChange #ClimateChangeMitigation #ClimateEducation Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024

𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: A session by Marie Sallois ⚽️🚴🏼♂️ 🏌🏻 Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympic Games in the late 19th century with a vision of “𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬”. He believed that sports could unite continents and go beyond differences! 🏊🏻♀️ The aim of Olympics is to contribute to a more sustainable world, recognising that sport is a key enabler for sustainable development. 🌍 Paris 2024 Olympics is going to be a milestone as gender parity will be achieved with an equal number of male and female competitors from 206 territories. And it will be a Paris Agreement game, as Paris has committed to cutting emissions by half compared to previous Olympics. This involves maximising the use of existing venues, public transportation, renewable energy sources, and waste reduction. ⛹🏼♀️ Olympism 365: The concept of "Olympism 365" emphasises that the Olympic movement can contribute to sustainable development every day of the year through various initiatives, including partnerships with airlines to promote grassroots sports programs. 🌱 Climate Action: Efforts are made to reduce emissions significantly, with a goal to cut emissions by 50% by 2030, with the first milestone being a 30% reduction by 2024. This includes changing travel patterns and sustainable practices at the Olympic headquarters. 🤼♀️ Inspiration and Collaboration: The Olympics seek to inspire and collaborate with athletes, young leaders, and organisations to drive innovation and sustainability. Athletes are encouraged to give back to society, and young leaders are supported in developing projects related to environmental and social responsibility.
