When you pass by the same road every single day, you become accustomed to your surroundings, and they start to feel familiar over time.
Until...
Something new or different comes along and catches your eye.
Take the trees, for example. For months, you see the same leaves, the same colors, and no flowers. Then one day, you notice cherry blossoms in the same spot, and you're immediately drawn to them.
You want to keep looking because they're so beautiful.
Similarly, we've become so accustomed to the architecture around us that we hardly notice it anymore.
We need a beautiful change, like those cherry blossoms.
Like trees that are merely trees, and not something we want to stop and stare at, we're also surrounded by buildings that are just buildings and not architectural masterpieces.
Therefore, what's needed is architecture that makes us admire it for as long as it exists, rather than just being an exciting novelty that wears off in a few days.
The kind of architecture that makes you want to keep coming back, which I hear is also known as classical architecture. Just saying. 💁♀️

Modern Architecture and its Forms®️
Modern architecture is a term that refers to the architectural style that emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by the use of new materials, technologies, and forms that challenged the traditional conventions of architecture. Modern architecture was influenced by various movements and schools of thought, such as the Bauhaus, the International Style, Functionalism, Brutalism, and Postmodernism.
🗺️🌐🏕️ Some of the common features of modern architecture are:
🗽
- The use of geometric shapes, such as cubes, cylinders, and spheres, to create simple and elegant forms.
- The use of concrete, steel, glass, and other industrial materials that expressed the structural and functional aspects of the buildings.
- The rejection of ornamentation and historical references, in favor of clarity and simplicity.
- The emphasis on functionality and efficiency, as well as social and environmental responsibility.
- The integration of art and technology, as well as the exploration of new forms of expression and experimentation.
🗽
Modern architecture has produced some of the most iconic and influential buildings in the world, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Modern architecture continues to evolve and adapt to the changing needs and preferences of society, as well as the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.🎢🌁

The aim of this project was to design a secondary school in accordance with Louis Khan's inspirational and timeless design philosophy.
Taking forward his approach of designing a methodical succession of spaces, the concept of creating a balance between formal and informal spaces to curate a reliable learning environment was adapted. This was achieved by layering the sequence of spaces. All of the spaces were layered, and the planning was done in accordance with the users’ needs. Geometric overlapping between the square and the circle, a design element frequently associated with Louis Khan’s work, is done to differentiate between the character of formal and informal spaces respectively.
Therefore, the complex is seen to be divided into separate blocks according to the function of spaces. These blocks and zones adjoin each other around a courtyard which defines an axis through the complex upon entrance. The courtyard ensures natural light and ventilation into the complex through fenestrations and transparent thresholds. A study of natural factors of the sun and wind directions are utilized into the passive design, and the orientation of spaces ensures natural light in accordance with functions.

Hey there! Let's talk about Brutalist architecture – a style that's sparked both love and controversy in the architectural world. You've probably seen those buildings with raw, exposed concrete and bold geometric shapes. Well, that's Brutalism!
It all began in the 1950s after World War II when architects were focused on construction and using honest, raw materials. The name "Brutalism" comes from the French word 'beton brut,' meaning raw concrete. Sounds cool, right?
Brutalism's philosophy is all about functionality and social purpose. Some people find it austere and imposing, leading to mixed opinions. But here's the thing – it still inspires modern design today, especially in residential spaces.
Keep an eye out for large geometric forms, clean lines, and rough surfaces if you want to spot a Brutalist building. Lighting is often concealed, adding to the dramatic effect.
Some famous examples include Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse, Boston City Hall, Geisel Library, Habitat 67, and the Royal National Theatre. They're iconic!
So, there you have it – a glimpse into the world of Brutalist architecture. Love it or not, it's an undeniable part of our architectural history.
