Recently, the City of Delray Beach joined other regional partners in endorsing the Southeast Florida Climate Action Pledge by adopting resolution 201-23. The pledge means that the City will cooperate with regional partners to prepare for the impacts of climate change using the Regional Climate Action Plan. Developing solar power, conserving water, converting to hybrid or electric vehicles are examples of activities and policies described in the plan, which can be found at the Florida Climate Insitute: https://ow.ly/AS8u50Q8oni.

Make The Switch! Ann V. Edminster, prominent green building educator, consultant, and advocate for zero-energy homes, offers us a sneak peek below ⬇ into how it’s worth ditching the gas and electrifying. Electrifying our homes is a major part of decarbonizing our environment, not to mention having healthier air in our homes, not to mention being more fire-safe, and so much more. 💡 Watch for Ann’s full-length video, “Electrifying: A Climate Solution?” coming next week, Wednesday, March 6th. #electrification #zeroenergyhomes #climatesolution #decarbonization

Our shared inland waterways are important corridors for biodiversity, heritage, and recreation. To ensure their sustainability and functionality in a changing climate, we must assess their resilience. This assessment will provide insights into vulnerabilities, helping Waterways Ireland plan for extreme weather events, as climate patterns change. It will guide us in building adaptive infrastructure, conserving ecosystems, and protecting communities. #ClimateResilience #Waterways #Sustainability #ClimateAction
It is imperative we ensure the protection of our natural and built waterway assets for this and future generations to enjoy. Waterways Ireland, as custodians of these assets, has commissioned an innovative Climate Resilience Assessment, in partnership with LUC, which is mapping all of our assets throughout the 1,000km+ of waterways. Utilising future climate trends from Met Éireann we can target assets most at risk and develop adaptation measures and interventions in a targeted and strategic manner #ClimateActionWeek #leadingbyexample #sdgs

While communities around the world are already facing the impacts of climate change, cities are uniquely vulnerable. Not only does most of the world live in urban centers, but the way most cities were built traps the heat. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a city’s average air temperature can be up to 3°C (5.4°F) warmer than its surroundings. This difference can jump to 12°C (22°F) at night since the concrete and other materials stay warm long after the sun sets. In our new blog, we explain what the urban heat island effect is and what cities can do about it. 👉 https://bit.ly/44xE57H

Check out this #Housing and #Climate report from Zack Subin and University of California, Berkeley Turner Center!
The majority of climate-warming pollution from the average U.S. household are influenced by #HousingPolicy. Yet housing and #ClimatePolicy research are too often siloed. We're excited to officially launch the new Housing + Climate research initiative at Terner Center for Housing Innovation! Read more in our summary blog, https://lnkd.in/g8dg5gYP, and then our report, https://lnkd.in/gwidmV7t, led by Carolina Reid with contributions from me & Jon McCall.
