It's Fun Sign Friday... this week, we have a humorous take on a serious problem. And some statistics to share that might surprise you.
Most people don't realize the alarming frequency of vehicle incursions into buildings. In the multi-site FM world, this is an all-too-common occurrence.
As a 1300 store chain, we could see upwards of 50 incursions each year back in my days at Pier 1 Imports. These ranged from awning damage to truck-into-the-loading-dock-door, trash hauler incursions, and car-in-the-storefront incidents. All involved time and funds to repair, many created store downtime, and some resulted in injuries and extensive property & product damage.
Thankfully, none of the incidents during my nine years there resulted in a fatality. Sadly, 16,000 people are injured and as many as 2,600 killed in commercial storefront vehicle incursions in the U.S. each year (ref.: Storefront Safety Council).
There are solutions available that can help protect from many or most vehicle incursions, but as with everything else of value, they come with a cost.
Back to our sign this week - FSF can appreciate this restaurant's lighthearted approach in messaging that they are open despite the damage.
And we hope nobody was hurt.
What's your signage saying?
