The deep tech sector can have a large impact on the future of the Dutch economy and our welfare. We have pillars upon which to build a great future and these pillars are 10 awesome technologies identified by the Dutch government. But there are some hurdles which should be addressed to unleash at full scale the potential of these technologies: 1. Consistent government policy. To make a difference we need a horizon of 10 years with consistent push for improvements, so we can bank in our strategies on that consistency. 2. Risk taking Short term risk mitigation (for instance in too many milestones in financing) leads to short term management focus. This creates much larger risks in the longer term by not growing fast enough or not being able to strategically invest to become globally relevant. 3. Speed Bureaucracy and lack of urgency is slowing us down enormously. Despite all the strengths of the Dutch economy, we're not taking advantage of that quick enough. We are 10 entrepreneurs with very fast-growing and impactful businesses and we would like to unite our voice, explain what we need and what we can be achieved for a better future of the Netherlands, with a large and positive impact at global scale. 🌟 Reflecting on a Thought-Provoking Panel Discussion at NXTGEN Hightec🌟 Last week, I had the privilege of participating as a panelist at the NXTGEN Hightech yearly event, an initiative spearheaded by the Nationaal Groeifonds. Alongside Rinke Zonneveld (CEO Invest-NL), André van Troost (CEO Lely), and Carolijn Hawinkels (CEO Delta Diagnostics), we delved also into the topic of "Control Points." While it's been a few days since the event (I was out of office), I take the chance to reflect on the insightful discussions that unfolded. Undoubtedly, creating unique control points offers several advantages, as covered during NXTGEN Hightech. However, it's imperative to underscore the significance of maintaining these control points. Merely establishing them isn't enough; we must continuously reinvent ourselves. Comfort and growth do not co-exist; thus, we better be careful not growing complacent after achieving initial success. True maintenance of control points involves a holistic approach, encompassing everything from understanding customers' evolving needs to enhancing knowledge across the second-tier supply chain. Rather than viewing control points as mechanisms solely for internal decision-making and optimizing short term profit margins, let's strategize on leveraging them to foster innovation across the entire ecosystem, from customers to suppliers, thereby making a meaningful impact. And I was inspired by the remarkable narratives shared at the event, including the journey of Bas van Abel, founder of Fairphone , and the insightful lessons imparted by Wilco Van Rooijen. #NXTGENHightech #Innovation #Collaboration #Leadership #ControlPoints #Sustainability
