As I wrap up my 11-week Wealth Management internship with Morgan Stanley in the great New York City having an interview with the wonderful Catherine Galgano, I want to take this time to share all the valuable experiences I got to engage in this summer. 1. Wealth Management is far from what you think it is. Working with the skypointe team with the humbling Paul B. Majauskas, CIMA® Cheryl Snook, and William Jene', CIMA® , trust is a big factor in your everyday lives as much as it is in the office. Adding your 2 cents in, maybe 10 cents to someone else, never hurts to put input in appropriate situations. 2. Derrick Manuel MBA taught me taking 1,2 maybe 3 steps at a time is way more progress than jumping from 1-10. Your life may change within seconds, you have to be willing to adjust within. 3. If anyone ever gets in contact with Timothy Pearce, first thing he will tell you is, networking is key. Although talking to everyone under the sun is a very daunting and tedious task, that someone may and in my case will help you in the future and you may help them. Never second guess about networking within your interests. Thank you to all who have helped me!!! Today our Corporate & Institutional Group summer analysts had the privilege of hearing from our Chairman & CEO at Truist Securities Thomas Hackett!! Thank you for your time today, Tom, and thank you for reminding us that: 1. We are perfectly imperfect and we shouldn’t be ashamed to talk about it. 2. We should humble ourselves and acknowledge what we don’t know and then ask questions to achieve an understanding. 3. In life we should focus on building relationships…not transactions. 4. Connecting what we do to our purpose (whether personal or professional) is so important. 5. Putting more energy into understanding instead of being misunderstood is vital to our success. 6. We are not happy because we are successful…we are successful because we’re happy. 7. Always DO THE RIGHT THING!! These words of advice are greatly appreciated and our interns will take these tips with them as they complete the last few weeks of their internship as well as the last year of their college matriculation. My real estate career really started on this day 11 years ago. I was in the car on my way from Orlando to Columbia, SC when I got a call from Oxford Properties Group regarding a summer internship. Looking back, the summer I spent at that pension fund was the most formative time of my life. I learned more about real estate during those 3 months than I did during my time in college. My journey from a passionate retail trader to an internship in a professional environment in the financial markets is a dream come true.
