My reflection on year one of my heritage-focused public engagement project with Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy is up! To end the year, I dove into the purpose of this project, the value of using the lens of heritage, and the challenges to a three time frame approach where past, present, and future can create synergy around a community space. https://lnkd.in/gMnCYX-4

The Healthy Ocean Coalition is proud to be part of the America the Beautiful For All Coalition! This group consists of 250 organizations working toward President Joe Biden’s goal of conserving 30% of U.S. lands, waters, and ocean by 2030 and achieving the initiatives outlined in Justice40. We are the largest and most representative coalition ever assembled for the most ambitious conservation goal ever set in the United States. The 2024 Policy Agenda, which was released today, iterates on continued priority action items addressed in the 2023 Policy Agenda such as: ensuring marine protected area management and implementation; enacting a Bureau of Land Management Rulemaking to modernize 245 million acres of public lands management; expanding access to existing open space through community use agreements; and more. Explore the policy agenda here: https://lnkd.in/eU3r9MrP Watch this video to learn more about the coalition (if you look closely, you'll see me a few times 😊 ): https://lnkd.in/ev6y5QcM

The America the Beautiful for All Coalition reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of lands, waters, and oceans by 2030. In 2024, this coalition will continue to motivate urgent action by the Biden Administration, Congress and other decision-makers in support of the coalition’s twin goals: 1) Conserving at least 30% of land, water, and ocean by 2030; and 2) Implementing a Justice40 metric for the America the Beautiful Initiative to ensure at least 40% of investments are made in communities of color and frontline communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation and equitable access to nature. https://zurl.co/fUfF

Mt. Elbert in Sept 2023. Some ask why we summit Mt. Elbert when it takes 3 days and 50+ volunteers to serve 1 individual. It often comes into question if it is worth it when we could serve so many more in that timeframe with that team. Mt. Elbert is more than a single experience. It is symbolic of everything we are building together. It is emblematic of the glass ceiling we will continue to shatter as a community. We are the change, and if we can do this on Mt. Elbert year and year, and it becomes normal instead of "impossible", then every trail in every community can become adaptable through community strength. We can create something more inclusive and equitable in the mountains. For the record, we did create 110 other "impossible" trail experiences in 2023 :)

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge that we are on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh, as well as the ancestral lands of the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples who have been stewards of this land for countless generations. Acknowledging the historical injustices and ongoing challenges Indigenous communities face, we commit ourselves to ongoing education and awareness about Indigenous history, culture, and rights. We aspire to be better allies and advocates for the Indigenous peoples and commit ourselves to listening and learning from the Indigenous voices that continue to guide us in caring for this land and its communities. In this spirit, we commit to fostering a more inclusive and equitable future where we can all live, work, and learn together in harmony. Heritage is additionally committed to building a sustainable future, acknowledging the necessity of preserving our lands for future generations, and strive to work with local Indigenous communities, ensuring this is done in a meaningful, responsible way.
