“When I was picking a career, I knew I wanted to be passionate about it but I also wanted to make an impact and the trades had that to offer,” said Karina Badillo, a College of Lake County CEP graduate. “When I first started college, I bounced around through welding and through automotive technology but they didn’t have a program that was similar to this… you can really connect the bookwork to the actual hands-on experience that the real world has to offer… It is really nice being able to have a team behind you.”

📰 This week the FMCSA released stats on applications and rejections for the Under-21 Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program. I was surprised by how few applications were received (113) and how few were accepted - only 34 applications, or 30%, were accepted. 🧒 👧 Though in the current market, drivers are not as hard to come by, generating opportunities for young drivers should still be a priority. However, the lack of applications seems to indicate otherwise. I am intrigued to learn more about what is behind these figures. Is it driven by the current market 📉 , the safety restrictions imposed by insurers 📜 , the lack of interest from younger generations 😴 or a combination? Would love to get my trucking network's though on this. #driverrecruiting #driverretention #trucking #transportation #drivershortage #DoubleNickel https://lnkd.in/eiM2PPgw

An interesting topic to discuss! What factors need to be met for the safety of driving a loaded truck, does age factor into it?
It appears that few carriers are interested in training and hiring truck drivers younger than 21 years old. But that is okay, because it also appears that not many young people are interested in becoming a truck driver anyway. That said, how comfortable would you be having an 18-year-old truck driver transporting one of your loads across state lines? Read on for some insights from our Indago supply chain research community, as well as some data reported recently by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration about its under-21 truck driver apprenticeship program. #trucking #logistics #supplychain #drivershortage https://lnkd.in/ew7zYDfq

I would like to hear the thoughts of those in the transportation industry.
The FMSCA says only 113 motor carriers have applied for its under-21 truck driver apprenticeship program since July 2022, a dismal sign for an initiative that had been expected to recruit up to 1,000 carriers and 3,000 drivers. https://lnkd.in/djgpFrvi

Check out all the #Apprentices in Santa's workshop!!! You too could have your own set of Elves in your #manufacturing environment Juniper Training Ltd will support with a Lean Manufacturing apprenticeship and here are 3 things we can learn from the Elves and why you need them. 1. Good Work Habits Our sole purpose in life doesn’t have to be building or making projects but sticking to a task and being a diligent worker are admirable traits that we admire in the elves. 2. No Project is Too Big It’s not Santa’s Elves and regular sized people who build the toys, it’s just the elves. That means they must over come challenges in height and size to build their toys. If elves can do it so should we. If a project seems to big physically to handle or you don’t quite have the know how, round up your friends and ask them to help you. 3. Be Efficient Elves don’t have time to waste and over the years they’ve become very good at their jobs. They plan well and keep waste to a minimum. We even wonder if Santa runs an eco-friendly toy factory? He should!
