I've completed the Net Zero 101 course offered by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS)! This course provided a comprehensive overview of climate change science, its impacts, and the pathway to achieving net zero emissions. I learned about the urgency of the climate crisis, the international efforts to address it, and the role of individuals and organizations in creating a sustainable future. As a sustainability consultant, I understand the importance of staying informed about climate change and the journey towards net zero emissions. I recently completed the Net Zero 101 course, a foundational program that I believe is essential for anyone passionate about sustainability. The course covered the basic scientific principles behind climate change, explaining how human activities lead to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. It linked these changes to the concept of net zero and carbon neutrality, providing insights into the roles of major international organizations and key milestones in climate action. I delved into the environmental and socio-economic impacts of climate change, understanding the urgency of a whole-of-society approach where different sectors contribute to achieving net zero. The course emphasized the importance of sustainable practices and introduced advanced concepts like the significance of carbon sinks and the pros and cons of renewable energy transitions. Practical tips on reducing one’s carbon footprint and tools for calculating emissions were particularly enlightening. I encourage all young professionals interested in sustainability to explore these foundational courses.
