Hospice care is different for each person receiving care, but most often the cost is calculated per bed. The cost of a hospice bed is estimated at $470/day, while the cost of a hospital bed can be over $1,100/day. With limited hospice beds in our region, there is extra pressure on the hospital system. Support for palliative care is more important than ever. If you want to learn how you can support the palliative care community, check out our website at outcarefoundation.org. #OutCareFoundation #palliativecare #hospicecare #inhomecare #Ottawa #healthcare #dignityindying #costofcare

Tasmanians are being encouraged to have an ‘Awkward Conversation’. Our friends at Palliative Care Tasmania have launched a bold new campaign to prompt conversations about Advance Care Planning including advice around lodging an Advance Care Directive. “While the prospect of discussing health care and end -of- life wishes may be uncomfortable at first, the benefits of having these conversations far outweigh any initial discomfort. In Tasmania, an Advance Care Directive is a powerful tool that legally ensures your values, beliefs, and treatment preferences are respected and followed when you are unable to communicate them yourself," say Veney Hiller, CEO of Palliative Care Tasmania. Tasmanians can find out more ➡️ https://ow.ly/k28q50QGZl0 Each state and territory has its own requirements around Advance Care Planning, find out more through Advance Care Planning Australia ➡️ https://ow.ly/EYgc50QGZl1

Nevertheless Whyalla, South Australia's fourth most populous city at the gateway to Eyre Peninsula is arguably the most complex and diverse planning region in the state. The remote location, large geographical area, small and sparse population and industrial diversity present a range of challenges and opportunities for the region’s economic and community development. The region has competing economic, community and environmental needs that are exacerbated by the tyranny of distance from metropolitan Adelaide(385km) and the limited capacity of transport and utility infrastructure. Most of the councils in the region have small populations and thereby lack the critical mass and policy leverage to influence State and Australian Government decision making. The consequence is that regional aspirations are often not heard, and regional development requirements are not being met. Unfortunately, the almost daily reports of yet more and more of the state income being spent (squandered) on improving the lifestyle and services of just a few square kilometers of the State capital to the detriment of the state's regional centres will undoubtedly have a societal and political consequence.
Whyalla is blessed with a wonderful hospital, excellent health care professionals and when needed the Royal Flying Doctor can fly in patients from the outback or west coast or transfer patients direct to RAH Adelaide. (RFDS at Whyalla Airport earlier this week). PS: Sunsets not bad either ! #rfds #unearthwhyalla #regionalaustralia
