DEFINING 'SAFETY'
In a recent conversation of mine with a long-time friend, confidant, and career Safety professional, with a military background, he stated the following:
"Based on my 40+ years in the survival and safety spaces, here's how I have come to define safety: Safety is a stochastic, non-deterministic, spectral, transient, emotional, and subjective qualitative interpretation of past performance."
Full disclosure, I had to look up some of these words because they are above my education level 🤣, but I muddled through.
However, I am NOT a Safety professional and am seeking constructive feedback on what you all think of this definition?
I know one thing, for the plant level folks I typically deal with, the wording is too complex, and therefore it would likely not be received well. It would need to be watered down a bit to increase the chances of full comprehension, and then sound judgments could be made.
What say you LI professionals?
BTW - He is aware I am posting this for general feedback!
