A Just Transition for Tenants: Empowering through Cooperative Renewable Energy The transition to a sustainable future is not just about technology and policy – it's about ensuring that everyone benefits. Tenants, who often face higher energy costs and limited control over their living spaces, are a crucial part of this equation. The Challenge: Tenants often miss out on the benefits of renewable energy, such as lower bills and reduced carbon footprints. Traditional energy models favour owner-occupiers, leaving renters with fewer options. The Solution: Tenant Cooperatives Tenant cooperatives offer a powerful way to address this inequity. By pooling resources and forming a cooperative, tenants can: - Invest in renewable energy: Install solar panels, wind turbines, or other renewable sources to generate their own clean power. - Share the benefits: Reduce energy costs for all cooperative members, ensuring a fairer distribution of savings. - Empower tenants: Give renters a voice in their energy choices and a stake in the transition to a sustainable future. A Just Transition: This model aligns perfectly with the Just Transition principles, emphasising equity, community engagement, and decent work. Some exciting news to announce - our Byers Gill Solar project has been accepted for examination by the Planning Inspectorate! Hats off to Michael Baker MRTPI and the whole team for getting us to this stage.   This marks a major milestone in the delivery of RWE’s UK Solar and Storage ambitions, and we are grateful to our partners Arup, Burges Salmon, Ardent and Copper and all who have worked hard to achieve this significant outcome.   This project will deliver a wide range of benefits for net zero, nature recovery, and the local community. This includes:   ·        4 million+ tonnes of CO2 savings – equivalent to taking 100,000+ cars off the road ·        Enough clean energy to power 70,000 UK homes ·        £27 million in business rates for the local council over the projects lifetime ·        £600,000 community benefit fund ·        70% biodiversity net gain, including 7km of new hedgerows; 90+ hectares of new habitat creation; improved existing habitats; new tree planting ·        24 hectares of community picnic areas, orchards and other green infrastructure improvements ·        Continued agricultural use for grazing   #Solar #RWESolar #Renewables #SolarEnergy

Ceredigion leads the way with nearly a quarter of homes powered by clean energy, closely followed by the Isle of Anglesey, demonstrating the region's commitment to a sustainable future. This surge in eco-friendly uptake is largely attributable to the ECO Grants Scheme, which facilitates free installations for low-income families, creating greener homes while mitigating the sting of energy expenses. Work is well under way on our innovative ground source heat pump network at the exciting One Horton Heath development. Hear from Antony Jennings from Synergy Boreholes Ltd as he explains why heat pumps are the most efficient technology and how they work to deliver 100% renewable energy. Antony said: “Eastleigh Borough Council are putting these in ahead of government guidelines for 2025, when every new-build property has to move away from fossil fuels. Eastleigh Borough Council are very progressive in choosing this technology.” The pumps are part of our ongoing investment in sustainability, delivering on the Council’s commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels. This is just one of the technologies we’ll use to deliver 100% renewable energy to our first new homes. Foundational to a Circular Economy is renewable energy. We are seeing a shift in companies within the Circular Economy, notably material recyclers, integrating Solar PV energy into their operations. Companies, notably Cape Town companies, that have positioned themselves within the circular economy should consider integrating Solar PV into their energy mix.
