The mission of the 100 Black Men of Eastern New York is to serve the African American community in Eastern New York in the areas of Education, Health and Wellness, Advocacy, Mentoring, community Development, Leadership Development and Economic Empowerment. The 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc. was formed to address the current issues of our day in our community, and to build upon the illustrious foundation of the men who paved the way for a more just, and equitable society. The “100” advocates for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in all aspects of society. The founders of 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc. have a long and lengthy history of service and commitment to downstate, New York. Our goal is to bring together a variety of men from diverse backgrounds who are committed to the community and have exemplified excellence in their prospective spheres of influence. It is our desire to impact our community in a positive manner and change the narrative by creating greater success. What: 13th annual Regional Justice Leadership Summit presented by the South AL Center for Fair Housing Theme: “Building Beloved Communities” The Summit’s theme is centered around building the beloved communities that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned involves creating inclusive, equitable, and compassionate societies where all individuals are valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. Purpose: The summit aims to raise awareness and build understanding of the historical and contemporary effects of redlining impacts on Gulf Coast communities. Additionally, spark conversation and meaningful actions that would begin the process of reversing the lingering negative effects caused by redlining in communities of color across America that happened decades ago. Who: Those who should attend and would greatly benefit from the summit include the community at large, community organizers, academics, policymakers, elected officials, nonprofits, real estate professionals, insurance professionals, banking and lending professionals. When: Three days of empowering programming to spread awareness and to ignite action among citizens and community partners to advance the communities right to healthy safe and fair housing. #CommunityEngagement is a term widely used yet has vastly different interpretations. In my very biased opinion, to be effective agents of social change, it is important for us to recognize that we ALL ARE COMMUNITY MEMBERS and we each have beautifully diverse talents, skills, resources, power and influence that must be woven together to achieve our shared goals. When we engage with one another, for GHI, it means far more than transactional interactions or checking a box. It means earning trust, being in fellowship, developing an understanding of nuance, not shying away from tough conversations and centering those who are most effected by the inequities we aspire to eliminate. The Transformative Power of Boy Scouts in Underprivileged Communities In a world rife with disparities, the Boy Scouts serve as a beacon of hope for underprivileged communities. More than just an organization dedicated to the outdoors, it acts as a lifeline, pulling many from the brink of societal neglect and imbuing them with skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose. First, the Boy Scouts provide a structured environment for young individuals. This is crucial for those who, due to socioeconomic factors, may lack stability in their daily lives. The routines, discipline, and camaraderie found within the organization offer a steadying force and a sense of belonging. Further, the skills imparted range from practical life skills to leadership training. Whether it's learning how to pitch a tent, navigate with a compass, or lead a team in accomplishing a task, these skills not only build confidence but also open doors to future opportunities. But perhaps the most transformative aspect is the character-building ethos of the Boy Scouts. Underprivileged communities often face a barrage of negative stereotypes and low expectations. The Boy Scouts challenge these notions, fostering values such as integrity, responsibility, and service. As scouts rise through the ranks, they are not only defying societal expectations but also setting an example for their peers. In conclusion, while the benefits of the Boy Scouts are universal, its impact is deeply profound in underprivileged communities. As we recognize the value of such organizations, it becomes imperative for us to support and champion their endeavors, ensuring that more young individuals have access to the life-changing experiences they offer.

THE HISTORY AND PRESENT STATE OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN AMERICA CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: BROKEN DON'T BE FOOLED BY SLICK PROMOTIONAL POSTS THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOUR LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS ARE SOLVING THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS. WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS MUST ASK: AT WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYERS AND HOW LONG IS THE AFFORDABILITY PERIOD? EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, density bonus increase, waivers of impact fees, or other government benefit or incentive did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project and, if the affordability period is not in perpetuity or permanent, WHY NOT? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants in the affordable housing units will not be displaced after an "affordability period expires? Any LOCAL, STATE or FEDERAL official that does not MANDATE "permanent" affordability periods or affordability "IN PERPETUITY" for any project receiving some government benefit is commiting MALFEASANCE and should quit, be removed from office or be terminated. IN MOST CASES WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, the public and taxpayer are being fooled into thinking their elected and appointed officials are solving problems, when in fact, all hey have done is "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" to burden a future generation with the same problem or crisis!
