Still buzzing from Metallica show on Friday! I was blown away - not only by the music, but by the logistics masterpiece. Did You know ? 85 trucks worth of gear from city to city. Stage 58.5 meters wide and 17.7 meters tall 350,000 watts of audio power per show. 2,000 meals per day for crew (130 people) It is not a concert - it's a masterclass in large-scale procurement and logistics ! When I think about the complexities, several elements comes to my mind Metallica's "show model" is like a procurement template used across 23 countries. It's the kind of scalable standardised process we all dream about in procurement. In each city, they source everything from catering to crew locally. This means negotiating with new suppliers every few days, planned with such a purpose Imagine the flexibility and negotiation skills required for such rapid local sourcing. Even ESG is here - Metallica uses biodiesel trucks and eliminated single-use plastic bottles. With 130 crew members and tons of equipment, everything must sync perfectly. Their operation makes typical JIT logistics look simple, precision and coordination at the highest level Their contingency planning must be top-level. The kicker ❓ They do this 150 times a year, in venues ranging from stadiums to historic sites like Pompeii. Adaptable procurement! - thats the clue If Metallica can pull this off night after night, what could we reach in our own procurement strategies? 📍 Would love to meet personally the Procurement/Project Manager that delivers it. Anybody can share the contact ? #procurement #procurementrocks #metallica P.S. Do they use any procurement software ?
📌 Live Nation Entertainment ? Any possibility to get to the guys directly responsible to share the knowledge and experience with Procurement Community ?
massive piece of organisational work! I wonder what their WBS Project structure looks like and if they use JIRA😀?
Przemek Chlad Maybe you know who is managing european part of this tour (!?)
Love this Grzegorz Filipowski Such a great post. I for one would love to hear from the procurement lead on the Metallica tour team. Would make fascinating listening. When I was younger I worked as crew at Wembley stadium and arena, on stage and rigging. Worked on guns and roses, pet shop boys, Gloria Estafan. Quite a few others. Can’t even remember them all! But I do remember the coordination and logistics involved even back then was pretty mind blowing!
Would love to see their BOM😁
Procurement and supply chaings never sleeps. Monday thru Friday. Saturday & Sunday, too. It's all day. Every day & week after week. Month after month. Year after year. Business around the clock!
Music is not enough. That's what makes a difference. ✊
