Forced displacement imposes significant psychological and social burdens on individuals, families, and communities. Refugees not only grapple with the lingering psychological effects of traumatic events in their home countries but also face numerous challenges during their journey and in host nations Experiences of loss, pain, disruption, and violence elevate the risk of developing mental health and psychosocial issues. Supportive environments can facilitate coping and even foster resilience, but a significant impediment to psychological resilience in refugee situations is the breakdown or severe disruption of established community structures, like extended family systems and informal social networks, which often provide a stabilizing influence. Establishing community centers and self-help groups provides a platform for collective assistance and empowerment. Supporting community-led initiatives aimed at improving the overall well-being of vulnerable individuals and combating their exclusion and marginalization is crucial. Psychological First Aid (PFA) offers a compassionate and supportive response to people experiencing severe emotional distress, especially those who have recently encountered potentially traumatic events. Its primary objective is to empower individuals to regain control of their circumstances, and it doesn't necessitate professional counseling expertise. Training refugees in PFA not only enhances their ability to support themselves and others in coping with adversity but also improves their communication skills, allowing them to offer empathetic and attentive support to fellow community members.https://www.unhcr.org/

No food, water, essential health supplies or fuel. When I worked on a case study of humanitarian response in Gaza last year (https://lnkd.in/etWy4XJu), the situation seemed very bleak but I was humbled by the commitment and spirit of those working to build resilience in Gaza. What was dire before has now become unimaginable, and it’s troubling to see the lack of action by those who have the power to bring change. Humanitarian aid is still only trickling in compared to before the escalation of this crisis. The thing that kills me when discussing UNRWA is not just that some of their employees have been in the October 7th massacre. As you would expect - UNRWA is putting the blame on the individuals in questions and pleading ignorance (good luck if you believe that). The thing that kills me is the education that UNRWA gives Gazan children as part of its own work. This "education" contain blatant antisemitism. This report from 2021 (much before the current war) in the foreign policy paper shows this well. https://lnkd.in/dHHBD6EK. Is this what Spain is protecting? False claims about Jews "taking stones from the temple wall" or that terrorists who killed Jewish children are martyrs? Antisemitism is rife in Gaza now, as easily seen by the copies of Mein Kampf that were found (in Children's rooms) in Gaza.... How could Spain live with itself if it condones this? The job of UNRWA was the provide education to Gazan Children, not antisemitic indoctrination. 75 years since UNRWA was founded, I think that we can easily say that UNRWA did not provide quality education, it provided a large dose of antisemitism. Its about time this organization

But the scale of the ongoing conflict is truly alarming and has a devastating impact on civilians. The recent airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and attacks in the West Bank have intensified the immediate need for humanitarian aid in the region. Driven by factors such as shortage of medical supplies in the region, the limited availability of Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances in Jerusalem, and restrictions on incoming ambulances the demand for immediate medical assistance has surged. Our brothers and sisters require essential provisions such as shelter, ready-made food, hygiene items, and medical supplies. Türk Kızılay is on the ground, in a collaborative effort with the Palestinian Red Crescent and the Egyptian Red Crescent, actively involved in delivering humanitarian assistance to those affected by the conflict, particularly in Gaza and Jerusalem, through the implementation of sustainable projects that address fundamental humanitarian needs. Libya While our humanitarian aid efforts have primarily focused on Pakistan due to our established infrastructure, the plight of those in Libya has deeply touched our generous donors. With hundreds of thousands still homeless and struggling to access even basic necessities, such as food and water, we've directed our support through Muslim Hands.
