Tuesday night marked the launch of our Fall 2023 Spotlight Class! 🚀 We're thrilled to introduce you to our exceptional group of 32 young professionals, representing a diverse spectrum from nonprofit champions to visionary industrial engineers. Our journey began by acquainting ourselves with Downtown, immersing in its rich history thanks to the incredible Barbara Abbott of ExploreCity Tours. We then delved deep into the city's economic development assets and challenges alongside the insightful Jeff Dafler from the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. This time last year 15-20 of us would occasionally meet up in person, In random cities to compliment virtual cohort connecting, We’d discuss challenges and problems we were navigating, We’d share support, tips, and resources we were leveraging, And we’d have a little fun… These meet ups were awesome and fulfilling. Unlike any commercial gatherings we’d experienced. We had mixed role functions, industries, geographies etc… In a day of digital disruption, and constant change it was really cool to see people temporarily dropping things, To prioritize themselves, and prioritize the power of authentic human connections. Today we have the privilege to fly to Nashville and be together with 70 executive leaders, To do what we’ve been doing since day 1 and then some… When you start something new, Everyone’s always asking how do you scale, how do you maintain an ethos through scale, etc…it’s always about scale scale Scale… I’ll tell you my view of how you try to do anything well through some inevitable scale. Be around Amazing people. Below all the new technologies and new types of companies etc, There’s this ancient thing called people. Human beings have craved connection, belonging, meaning, and fulfillment since the beginning of time. The desire for companionship, purpose, and understanding has been a fundamental aspect of human existence throughout history. Additionally, the pursuit of knowledge, growth, and self-improvement has also been a driving force for individuals seeking to better themselves and their communities. As I’ve often said since the beginning of this journey, We don’t know exactly where this CREW is going, We’re just soaking up every minute of growing together as a community, And I do know one thing- Together we are lifting each other upwards and onwards so we can go back to companies, families, and communities to help others do the same. I'm still buzzing from the opportunity to see Jude and Marcus speak 2 weeks ago. I left the event inspired about the work that we do and how to continue to push the conversations forward on how we treat and use data in our day to day work. As Dr. Marcus Collins challenged us..."We don't see the world as 'what' it is, we see the world as "WHO we are". Noodling on that will expand your horizons of how you approach the work that you do regardless of part of the 'organization' you are with. I'm left with these additional nuggets of wisdom from the talk from both Dr. Marcus Collins and Judith Carr-Rodriguez... 1 - Consumption is a CULTURAL act. 2 - Don't mistake information for intimacy. 3 - Shakespeare was right - "All the world's a stage, and we are merely [SOCIAL] actors." 4 - Stories of 'failure' generally result in stories of innovation. 5 - Don't confuse kindness with weakness. 6 - Good storytelling and creativity is 'messy' - it is likely clear at the beginning, messy in the middle and magical by the end. 7 - The messy middle is necessary! 8 - Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious until it's pointed out. #alwayslearning #4As
