How can networks in Haiti can access to these kind of funding?

I was pleased to speak about food systems transformation at Rotary International in Milwaukee. Today we’re launching the Mana-centred Local Food System Model. It’s the culmination of research we did with Our Land and Water National Science Challenge, which focussed on examples of Food System Innovators - a set of incredibly innovative, determined and inspirational farmers and fishers. But this model also imagines how we get our food from them, through the ‘infrastructure of the middle’ and what we might need to do as eaters, communities and policy makers to make that easier. I believe this is a genuine model offering food security and community agency. We are offering this for consideration to all communities and whomever forms the next government. I think it’s a pathway to local food access, grounded in the understanding that we need to live within our planetary boundaries. To thrive we need our smaller food producers to have meaningful livelihoods, and for all of us to be able to find good food to keep us well. More info here: https://lnkd.in/g2YWS-r

In Wards 7 and 8, where there are three full-service grocery stores 🏬 for 147,000 residents (for reference, the majority White Ward 3 has 13 for 77,000 residents), innovative solutions that support food access are pivotal in the face of disinvestment and underinvestment due to historically racist policies.     Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture - the Bainum Foundation Farm's original food security partner - works to build a more equitable and sustainable food system in the region. Pamela Hess, Samantha Pounder, Matt Mulder and their team work tirelessly to bring healthy, regionally grown food to neighborhoods in the District that are not served by traditional grocers (you know who you are 👀) Arcadia’s Mobile Markets serve eight stops in the city – six in Wards 7 and 8 – offering produce, dairy and protein all sourced within 125 miles of the District. It’s election day! And Food Justice Fortnight. Two weeks of raising awareness of food-related issues, as well as highlighting the amazing work going on to champion Food Justice in Bristol. Hosted by Feeding Bristol and partners. We joined a session on Monday Burges Salmon LLP to learn how the Bristol City Office (Bristol One City) plugs into the principles set-out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. For food justice, this is primarily SDG 2: to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Although it was noted there’s intersectionality across many of the other goals. In Bristol, nearly 16,200 people are estimated to experience moderate to severe food insecurity. A selection of grassroots organisations shared the work they’re leading in communities to address this. These insights informed workshop discussions on what more can be done at a regional and local levels to reduce food insecurity and drive food equality. Our vision at Not Impossible is for young people to gain access to work experience within the vibrant economy, society and environment in the South-West. This includes the cross-sector opportunities here, including the food industry. Our microplacement opportunities can be selected by sector and by SDG, so young people can find work that matters to them. We’re excited to have brilliant local food partners in our host community including LettUs Grow, Bristol Food Network CIC, When in Rome | B Corp™ , Invivo Healthcare, Stroud Brewery - a certified B Corporation, with more on the horizon! Registration for Farm to Plate's Annual Gathering is live! The theme of this year's Gathering is "Transformative Change". There is a growing sense in Vermont and the Farm to Plate Network that now is the time to "be brave" in how we work together to address some of the most pressing issues facing our state, region, and world. Business as usual no longer feels up to the task of addressing issues like climate change, economic inequality, industry and market consolidation, food insecurity, and racial inequity. To emerge out of the next decade with climate resilience and environmental sustainability, shared economic prosperity, food security, and racial equity, together we need to cultivate new mindsets, culture, institutions, business models, and behaviors that can transform the structure, function, and purpose of our food system. Over two days, we will engage in transformational thinking and practice to better understand how we can create and support the conditions for transformational change. Through personal stories and breakout sessions spanning all aspects of the food system, we’ll learn about the successes and struggles of those in Vermont’s food system who are already involved in transformational work.
