We reject most of the applicants who come to us for a job in tech sales. Here are the 5 dumbest reasons I have heard from people on why they want a tech sales role: 1 - The laptop - Yes, really. 2 - Have time to keep up their side hustle. 3 - Get a cushy remote job. (It is not THAT easy). 4 - For the money (and no other reason). 5 - They think sales is easy. (Not for most people). The 10% of applicants we do accept know: 1 - The laptop is tracked and monitored lol. 2 - That getting good and crushing your quota takes time. 3 - A remote role has its own challenges. 4 - The money is only a tool, not the end result. 5 - Getting awesome at sales means wanting the best for your prospect.

Know anyone looking for a sales opportunity at a recently FUNDED company? Last week 82 companies raised money for a total of just over $3.2B. One of the biggest weeks in the last 6 months! As always, we went over all of them and found all the open sales opportunities. There were 3 companies with 3 open sales roles each: a Fintech that raised $60M!, a SaaS company that raised $9.5M, and an AI company raised $10M + 14 other companies. There were 6 remote jobs (out of 23). Among 82 companies, there were: 9 Individual contributor roles 10 SDR roles 4 Sales Leadership Roles There is a link to apply and all the info we could gather about the role, including the comp package (if it was listed). Tech sales career path 101: Break in as an entry tech level SDR **OTE $70k** Work really hard, set yourself apart Timeframe 9 months Parlay that into an SDR role at an established company **OTE $85k** Work really hard, set yourself apart Timeframe 1 year Parlay that into an SMB Acct Exec role (ideally same org) **OTE $120k** Work really hard, set yourself apart Timeframe 2 years Parlay that into another AE role, larger deal size **OTE $175k** Work really hard, set yourself apart Timeframe 3 years Now you have options. Take an AM role with higher base, lower upside, a bit ‘safer' of an option OR... Take a management role with higher base and OTE, but lower upside, but possibly puts you on track for the C-suite (would be another 5-7 years) OR... Stay on the AE track and: Parlay that into a senior or ENT AE role **OTE $300k** Work really hard, set yourself apart… and just make bank. Top performers in this role are clearing $1M/year. Every one of these transitions / decisions requires one constant. Work hard, set yourself apart. Do what’s required. Do things that you don’t really feel like doing today. Do those things again tomorrow. Do more of them next week and next month. Make a few extra calls. Send that follow up this evening instead of waiting until tomorrow. Check in with deals you signed a few months back. Don't complain because '1.5 years is too long to stick it out' The path to $1M is in front of you. But so is the path to 7 different companies over the next 10 years, never getting to your OTE. Some of it is out of your control.
