Can a simple question about grid reliability standards lead to a major overhaul? Imagine a scenario where a question about the loss of load expectation within the net cost cap raises concerns about the current reliability standards. This question, posed by ERCOT Chairman Jackson, led to a recommendation for parallel work on parameters for the Planning and Conservation Event (PCE). This situation highlights the importance of monitoring and questioning the status quo to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power grid. Innovative solutions like the monitoring system developed by Elvexys, in collaboration with Semtech and Oiken, use LoRa® devices and the LoRaWAN® standard to detect power grid failures, reducing costs and deployment time. This technology showcases the potential for advanced monitoring systems to enhance the reliability and resilience of the power grid. Lowest cost way for Utility and Regulators to handle load growth and lower rates for everyone. "More than 7,500 MW of VPP capacity could be deployed cost effectively across the state over roughly the next decade. That’s significantly higher than the capacity of the largest power plant in California, and higher than the total system peak demand of Los Angeles." "All five VPP technologies considered in our study make material contributions to the total potential. This technological diversity is a benefit of VPPs if adoption of one technology lags behind expectations, accelerated adoption of a different technology could offset the impact." "The inclusion of additional VPP technologies would increase the potential estimate. For example, vehicle to grid capability could advance to the point of commercial deployment over the next decade, which would dramatically increase the contribution of EVs to the total. Standalone energy efficiency programs, while outside the scope of our study, also could significantly increase the potential estimate if targeting savings during peak hours. Thermal energy storage, behavioral demand response, and managed EV fleet charging are other potential sources of “virtual” capacity." #VirtualPowerPlants

Janitza is a finalist in this year's "Best of Industry Award" in the "Measuring and Testing Technology" category. The Best of Industry Award, presented by MM Maschinenmarkt of Vogel Communications Group GmbH & Co. KG for the past 8 years, serves as a platform for the industry to showcase its latest developments and innovations to the public. It also faces scrutiny from one of the industry's most discerning panels - experts from within the industry itself. Companies had the opportunity to submit all their new and further developments from the last 12 months across 24 categories. Winners in each category are determined solely by the market. This is supported by MM MaschinenMarkt, PROCESS, LABORPAXIS, and DeviceMed, thanks to their extensive reach. The online voting commenced on June 3, 2023, and this year, approximately 20,000 votes were cast for the award. Today, Thomas Hilbig and Sebastian Hedderich are en route to Würzburg for the award ceremony. We have entered our product, the "UMG 801 and extension module 800-CT8-LP - Network Transparency at All Levels," for consideration in the "Measurement and Testing Technology" category. Janitza's UMG 801 power analyzer is a versatile solution for energy monitoring on final circuits and can be seamlessly integrated into various higher-level energy management systems. Additionally, the 800-CT8-LP expansion module, featuring 8 current measurement inputs per module, provides a space-efficient and cost-effective expansion option. These modules can be effortlessly installed using a click system, and their low-power technology allows for substantial space savings (up to 1.4 meters when fully extended, compared to similar solutions). We believe that this innovation deserves to be in the spotlight. We eagerly await the results of Thomas and Sebastian's participation in the awards ceremony. Whether it's the first, second, or third prize, we are already appreciative of the support and votes received! #Janitza #JanitzaPortfolio

Not only is virtual power from distributed energy resources sizable in potential to deliver energy and capacity, but VPPs are also the FASTEST way to meet our clean energy needs, especially at a time when siting and permitting is getting harder and taking longer!
Lowest cost way for Utility and Regulators to handle load growth and lower rates for everyone. The distribution cost avoidance is conservative in this study. Distribution should be by far the largest portion of the cost avoidance from the VPP in CA, less generation. "More than 7,500 MW of VPP capacity could be deployed cost effectively across the state over roughly the next decade. That’s significantly higher than the capacity of the largest power plant in California, and higher than the total system peak demand of Los Angeles."
