A year ago, shortly after sunrise, our team of 17 climbers made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft.) Seven days of adventure with old friends and new friends, and their stories… the determination, endurance, focus, gasping for air, and trusting our amazing guides. Special moments while ascending the summit in single digit temps from midnight to sunrise, sharing water with my buddy b/c his completely froze and the wonderful encouraging singing by our guides, lifting us up with their voices when we thought we couldn't go another step. And our reward was the most spectacular and beautiful sunrise over the roof of Africa... then, to catch the first glimpse of the summit sign with the complete joy and release of that moment, and the tears that followed. Strong bonds formed with our Kili family and many lessons learned, especially this one - whatever you’re going through, remember it truly is darkest just before the dawn…. just keep going forward. If you have any interest in climbing Kili, please dm me. #kilimanjaro #kindredsafaris #higherground

4moThanks for sharing this story. I’ve known one other that has attempted Kili only but did not make it physically but did come back with a changed heart. This gentleman shared his journey along the way and his emotional, spiritual, and mental journey. I can’t imagine the pure joy you must have felt to have succeeded in this goal. Congratulations. You said something in your text that I have come across so many times over the last week…it is darkest just before dawn…thank you for this reminder.
