This morning’s training included Case Goods! Specifically to train about the differences between a $300 chest and a $600+ chest. How would you respond to a customer if they said, “why should I spend $600 when this one costs $300”. Knowledge is power. With many differences in quality and construction, the choices a customer makes can determine if they have that chest for 2 years or 15 years. It’s our duty to educate our customers correctly so they can make the best choice to fit their needs. That starts with training.

Can't send all of your technicians to New Model training? New model training can be disruptive and time-consuming, not to mention expensive. But I've got a solution. To reduce the impact on dealers, I always prepare a "Cheatsheet" with every new model launch. Not all technicians can make it to training, but they can read the highlights using my "Cheatsheet". It doesn't need to contain every detail of the new model, just what they need to know should one appear in their work bay for a service. They can read the training manual for the full story. Ask your OEM for a cheat sheet! Or ask KIBŌ Learning Solutions. https://kibols.co.nz

Don't deliver training, deliver solutions to problems! I had a very enjoyable discussion with the Regional Sales Manager for a commercial truck parts supply company today, initially about training. But I think I talked him out of it. 😜 He's looking for ways to improve his business, and rather than jump at training, which is always difficult to justify, I left him with these words ringing in his ears when we parted: "Decide what problems you want to solve. Next time we meet, let's talk about them" If training is seen as solving one of those problems, then it will not only support the business but also supported by the business. By that I mean the corporation he answers to will see the value. I hate it when these sales quotes can be applied to training ("Don't sell, solve problems").

excellent tool for training.......
I gathered a little data at the MTOA conference this year. We trained 36 cops, about one in five of those guys had ever been put on a shot timer at work during department provided training. in other words, 80% of the students had never shot with a shot timer other than in outside-agency courses. Timers are a simple, cost-effective tool that helps make your training effective by giving you objective data on your performance. Some people are stuck in the past and don’t use timers because “timers won’t be there to start a gunfight on the street”. These people fail to understand the development of automatic response pathways, and the fundamental nature of training itself. Similarly to how people don’t usually have bullseyes on their chest, but we still train to shoot at a small ring patterned target so we can gather data on performance, timers can help motivate shooters in a big way. Knowing what to fix is a big part of being accountable to training. We like to see sub 1 second on a 5” square or circle at the 7-10 yard range from high or low port, and sub .5 from the scanning position.

Training may be an area that is overlooked by many as their business continues to grow. ⚠ But the impact it has on a company is vital as it grows. Since day 1 we have emphasized proper training that can ensure all of our employees are prepared and knowledgeable in their focused area of work. This has shown to be extremely important as we hear from customers how our employees are always ready to help. Next time you hear back from a customer, think about how that employee was trained to handle the situation.
