The 2030 EU Textile Strategy supports a circular economy that focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling textile waste. This initiative is to tackle the problem of #overproduction, #overconsumption, and the destruction of unsold or returned textiles. The European Commission has implemented Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) along with EPR financial contribution to promote the creation of products that support waste prevention and #circular economy, as well as the possibility of imposing penalties on products with significant environmental impact. We're on the precipice of a brand new landscape for textiles in the EU. New legislations are set to transform the textiles industry to produce products that are more sustainable and more recyclable. Starting in 2025, the EU will launch separate textile waste collection, paving the way for a cutting-edge recycling infrastructure. EU Wants Data on Textile Waste, REEN has the solutions. The European Union's proposed Waste Framework Directive is currently under scrutiny by a diverse group of stakeholders, from companies to NGOs, researchers, policymakers, and engaged citizens across Europe. This directive addresses two significant consumer sectors: textiles and food. How can we manage these waste streams we cant measure them ? We all agree we need to move to a model that's more sustainable. Two fundamental principles from the food industry resonate with our approach. Firstly, the idea of "eating up what's on your plate," and secondly, the practice of waste audits to gain meaningful insights into consumption patterns. Working with Textile bank operators #REEN are providing rich data to operators to enable them to gain valuable insights, reducing unnecessary trips, collecting banks when they need emptying and giving breakdowns on donations. The "Status for Developing Methods for Using Waste as a Resource for Knowledge about the Use Phase of Clothing" document offers an overview of the current state of these methods. Meanwhile, "USED, BUT NOT USED UP: Using Textile Waste to Inform Textile Rating Schemes" explores how waste audit data can support various policy measures, including Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules, Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation, labeling initiatives, and more. Let's collaborate to revolutionize the textile industry and make fast fashion a thing of the past. Together, we can create a greener, more sustainable future. 🌿👚 #TextileWaste #Sustainability #EURegulations #REEN #WasteFrameworkDirective #Innovation #CircularEconomy. One figure especially caught my eye today while going through some Circular Economy study content. Ellen MacArthur Foundation has estimated that the textile industry wastes $ 500 Billion (USD) in materials annually. It's shocking to think about how we've reached a point where such a staggering amount of secondary raw materials are going to waste. #sustainability #reducewaste #textileindustry

As I moved towards sustainable sourcing, I couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility for the future. Sustainable sourcing isn't just about eco-friendly textiles; it’s so much more. It's about reshaping our relationship with the planet for the better. It involves choosing renewable materials, supporting ethical practices, and minimizing waste. By prioritizing organic and renewable fibers, we reduce our environmental impact and ensure a healthier planet for future generations. Additionally, supporting fair labor practices ensures the well-being of workers involved in textile production. Implementing efficient waste management and recycling initiatives further minimizes environmental harm. Together, these actions pave the way for a future where sustainability is the norm, safeguarding the world for generations to come. #sustainablity #textileworld #fashionindustry

The European Parliament's ENVI Committee is implementing new rules to address textile waste, backed by data revealing less than 1% of textiles being recycled globally and 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste generated annually in the EU. These rules hold producers responsible for collection, sorting, and recycling, reflecting a commitment to improving sustainability and This move will leads to process and technology developments towards the recycling process in the textile industry.

Under the Ministerial Resolution No. 380 of 2022 regarding the regulation of single-use products in the country’s markets, the regulation on the importation, production, or trade of single-use plastic bags, including biodegradable plastic shopping bags, will come into effect starting from 1/1/2024. This measure aims to reduce pollution resulting from the use of these bags and encourage the adoption of sustainable and multi-use alternative products, in line with the #YearofSustainability. #MOCCAE

A two day conference to recycle textiles and bring all stakeholder together: Last week, Siddharth Bagri, Paul Doertenbach and Jürgen Fuchs from Landbell Group took part in a conference, which was organised by the German Textile Recycling Association. To build a sustainable future for textiles, EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) and advanced recycling are extremely important. EPR incentivises producers to manufacture more sustainable products and take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products (especially after they become waste). To enable fibre-to-fibre recycling from textile waste, we need advanced recycling solutions: Some of the most important question(s) were discussed at the conference: How will EPR be implemented across the EU and why is clarity on regulations so crucial? How can we ensure blended textiles, and the impurities in post-consumer textile waste is factored in when making policies and across the recycling chain? We are engaging in these discussions with partners and stakeholders – and to finding the best answers to the global problem of textile waste. At a more local level, our colleagues at ERP Netherlands already have solutions in place (the Netherlands introduced EPR for textiles in July 2023). In May, they introduced a new Click & Comply online store. Are you aware that less than 10% of designated plastics for recycling actually meet recycling standards? Shocking, right? With approximately 430 million tons of plastic produced annually, and a third of that being single-use plastics, it's time for change. According to McKinsey, a staggering 95% of plastic packaging is disposed of after just one use, resulting in an annual economic loss of up to $120 billion. These statistics are concerning, especially when considering the impact on our environment and economy. But fear not! There's a solution at hand: HYDR8 sustainable water and our patented Zer0 Waste Pantry. Say goodbye to single-use plastics and bid farewell to harmful packaging and pantry waste.
