Squeezing in another milestone before the holidays 🐛 Applications are open this week for the 1206 eligible schools and settings to apply to RHS for £10k each for outdoor learning equipment and biodiversity improvements. 💧 With £15million Department for Education funding available this is a huge opportunity to break down barriers to getting outside, and for more young people to connect with nature by understanding their grounds and leading the way in deciding on the improvements through the #Educationnaturepark programme. This years focus is 'grey to green' 🏫 as grey areas have the most potential for biodiversity increase and many settings may only have grey to work with. All interventions can then be added to a schools habitat map and help build the picture of the potential of the school estate for restoring nature 📈 Huge congrats to Laura W. for getting the grant programme off the ground. Image: In July we held a Hackathon at RHS Bridgewater for pathfinder schools to design a project that used nature to tackle issues schools might have and the results were integrated interventions that brought benefits for nature, people and planet. It's so exciting to think that these amazing ideas can now come to life! 🐸 🌧

Private school pupils have acccess to 10 times more #greenspace than state pupils. That's 10 times the area to run around and play in. 10 times more space for trees, ponds and #wildlife. 10 times more space for sports and excercise. And of course increased to all of the #health and #wellbeing benefits of the natural world. This #inequality of access to greenspace and the benefits it provides is entrenched in the system. We launched something new with Impacks a few weeks ago, and now it's the last call to order an Eager Explorers Activity Kit and have it arrive before Christmas! This kit is the perfect gift for any curious kid, ages 5-8. More info on the kit here: https://lnkd.in/gDMzPgTq Now, for a little backstory. It started with a conversation between me and Cassandra Miles miles, the executive director of the Great River Children's Museum (GRCM) in Saint Cloud, MN. Construction on the GRCM is currently underway, and it will be the second largest children's museum in Minnesota when completed in late 2024. The conversation that sparked the Eager Explorers kit started with a simple question: how do we strengthen the relationship between a caretaker and child, while also lighting the fire of curiosity in both? A sad reality of our current environment is that disconnection becomes more prevalent with the rise of technology and increasingly busy schedules. This got us thinking about how we could design an activity kit that would be fun for both the caretaker and child to work on together. We wanted the activities to be open-ended. Yes, each comes with instructions. But there's no single path towards success. Creativity and problem-solving are a must for this kit. We were lucky to secure a grant from the local Granite Rotary club to create 150 Eager Explorer kits for GRCM, who will distribute them to students in the local Greater St. Cloud region. Once the kit was designed, it seemed like a no-brainer to share it with the families we've served in the back-to-school season.  Back-to-school supply kits will remain a huge focus for us. But we hope this activity kit offers a different way for you to engage your student in the act of playful learning.

HEPH Foundation chosen to partner in Englewood’s Transformation: Designing a framework for Education, Community and Agriculture __________________________________ The HEPH Foundation is proud to drive a strategic planning initiative in collaboration with the Urban Earth Corp team at Grow Greater Englewood. The Corp comprises more than 50 dedicated groups and organizations as part of a comprehensive community initiative. These include local farmers, community members, the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Schools, and Argonne Labs. This project, led by Grow Greater Englewood, aims to rejuvenate our community through the innovative integration of agriculture and education. Anton Seals, Jr., Lead Steward at Grow Greater Englewood, reflects on our efforts: "This initiative is for everyone—young and old—offering innovative ways to link their interests with actionable opportunities. It's a forward-looking approach that prepares us for the future. The HEPH team's feedback from various community members, including our stakeholders, has laid a strong foundation for a concept that strengthens connections across Chicago." Building on 20 years of experience crafting engaging STEM education and strategic plans, the HEPH Foundation is dedicated to developing an educational system fostering growth, innovation, and community unity. Our approach doesn't just plant seeds in the soil; it cultivates ideas and opportunities for all ages in Englewood. It marks the 5 year anniversary of Imagine If 🎈 In 2019, I put a piece of paper on the dining room table. I blocked out the noise of my three kids (all under three years old) and started to dream. Why is Project-Based Learning important? What could a company offer to schools to help them? How could we create a process that empowers schools and ensures quality practice? And Imagine If was born. Just born though. The real creation of the organization has been in tandem with the best teacher I know, Bryan Harms. The evolution of the organization has come with the best team we could find: Caja Fournaise, Astrid Ibsen and Jonas Kalsgaard Lynggaard. And we wouldn't be anything without the passion, dedication and vision of teachers, schools and organizations that dream of making schools better for children.
