Peace is possible... indeed, peace is crucial.
In the laughter of children lies the universal language of hope. To mark the year’s end at World Health Organization, our staff brought their children to the office for a day. I was inspired by their innocence and pure happiness. Let’s turn their laughter into inspiration to unite together, transcend borders and overcome global challenges. Let's work together for a healthier, safer and more peaceful world.

As an HR executive, living and working with compassion means prioritizing the well-being of our employees, who in turn dedicate themselves to the care of our residents. Unlike my colleagues and co-workers, whose primary focus is directly on our residents—from custodians and maintenance staff to CNAs, LPNs, RNs—my focus is on the people who make our mission possible: our employees. Compassion in my role involves ensuring that our team members have the support they need to thrive, both professionally and personally. This means crafting and implementing policies and procedures that not only foster a positive work environment but also empower our staff to deliver the best possible care to our residents. By working compassionately, we create a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and equipped to provide compassionate care. It’s about recognizing the vital role each team member plays and ensuring they have the resources and environment needed to succeed. When we care for our employees with the same dedication they show our residents, we build a stronger, more resilient organization. It’s a cycle of care that starts with us and radiates out to every individual we serve.

That's why VicHealth is proud to support a brand new annual supplement in the Medical Journal of Australia called "Future Healthy Countdown". A scorecard tracking the health of our nation's young people, each year on World Children's Day we will publish the countdown to draw focus to the opportunities and challenges that shape child and adolescent health. Embrace the rhythm of compassion during World Heart Month, as we, the guardians of public health, orchestrate symphonies of wellness✨ Our role transcends charts and statistics, weaving a tapestry of heart-healthy communities. Like conductors guiding an ensemble, we champion preventive measures, compose educational campaigns, and harmonize healthcare policies, ensuring every beat echoes with vitality! Picture us as architects, constructing a landscape where hearts flourish whether through promoting exercise, fostering nutritious habits, or advocating for accessible healthcare. Join the movement, let's create a world where each heartbeat resonates with the melody of health and happiness🤍 👩🏻🔬As public health professionals, our role is multifaceted. For instance, we might organize community workshops on heart-healthy living, collaborate with local schools to implement nutrition programs, and advocate for policies that encourage physical activity🤸🏻♀️🏋🏻♀️By actively engaging with the community, we become catalysts for positive change, sculpting an environment where heart health thrives🫀❤️

The mission of public health is to promote safer, healthier and better-quality lives, prevent disease and injury, and ensure all individuals have the right to access all the facts, information, and knowledge available to make healthy choices for themselves, their families, and their community. In partnership with communities across the United States and around the world, the CDC Foundation works to improve health outcomes by developing effective programs and tackling systems. Health is more than the absence of disease. It is not just about surviving. It’s about thriving. This Juneteenth, let us celebrate the resilience in our communities and all reinvigorate our commitment to everyone living their healthiest life. Together, we can reinvent our systems and practices so everyone can reach a better quality of life. #Juneteenth Image Credit: National Museum of African American History and Culture.
