Unlocking potential with improv-infused leadership coaching and facilitation | Executive & Leadership Coach | Corporate Facilitator | ex-Yahoo/Verizon + ex-Hearst | ICF Certified Coach | Women in Tech
I've been quieter on here due to a lot of speaking engagements and travel lately - which is slowing down some now for the summer. I did want to share my full talk from this year's Women in Tech Global Conference though, which is all about improv tools for decision-making. I love nerding out on topics like cognitive bias! And we wonder why the AI outputs are sexist and racist? Even the journalists writing about the field can't name a single woman out of the long list available. It's beyond embarrassing. It's not an oversight. This is actively malicious. Here are just a handful of women in AI that I follow on here that should have made that list and should ALWAYS be in the AI/ML conversation... Timnit Gebru - Black in AI, Distributed AI Research Institute, formerly at Google Aparna Chennapragada - VP over generative AI efforts at Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Designer Mira Murati - CTO at OpenAI (and interim CEO as the board imploded) Abeba Birhane - Senior Advisor in AI Accountability at Mozilla Saloni Potdar - Senior AI/ML Engineer at Apple Shyamala Prayaga - Conversational AI & Deep Learning at NVIDIA The list could go on, but they should all rank higher than the dudes in that banner image. Their exclusion is either due to blatant sexism, lazy researching/writing, or a fear of spelling names other than Larry, Dennis, or Elmo (or maybe a combo of all three).

⏳It's nearly 2024 & my favourite newspaper, The New York Times, publishes a list of the top people in AI without including a SINGLE WOMAN! ❗️This is a story of bias. Professor Fei-Fei Li at Stanford University is just one name that comes to my mind. 💸 As a female investor investing in deep tech, this article is deeply disheartening. I hope J. Edward Moreno realises that writing this article without including a single woman takes the movement of women in tech & women in STEM backwards. 👩🏻🔬👩🏿💻👩🏽⚕️ Link 💻 >> https://lnkd.in/eqaNjVzn #AI #femalefounders #femaleinvestor #womenintech #womeninSTEM

VP of Marketing @mpathic | Mental Health Advocate | Talks about #ai #mentalhealth #healthtech #marketing
In light of recent discussions around the underrepresentation of women in the AI space, it's a shame to find the latest article in The New York Times, Who’s Who Behind the Dawn of the Modern Artificial Intelligence Movement (https://lnkd.in/dTM6sdtn), without a single mention of a woman in AI. It's crucial that we recognize the incredible contributions of women in shaping the future of technology. Off the top of my head, I can think of numerous influential women in AI who have played pivotal roles in tech development, such as Dr. Fei-Fei Li, Dr. Joy Buolamwini, and Dr. Kate Crawford. This is just the tip of the iceberg; there are countless more trailblazing women in AI. Explore the '100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™' list (https://lnkd.in/dshbAEWb) for 2023, published annually with new additions, and their comprehensive directory (https://lnkd.in/exkNXEKS). It's disappointing that J. Edward Moreno's article lacks representation of women in AI. Taking a cue from David Ryan Polgar (https://lnkd.in/dzGCch2v), whose article title aptly states, "If you’re not utilizing women leaders in AI, you’re not looking hard enough." David's piece not only emphasizes this point but also provides a valuable resource—listing books by leading women in AI and featuring videos from past events showcasing women's contributions. #WomenInAI #AIInnovation #TechEquality

What will shift mindsets in 2024 and onwards for better female representation and recognition in tech? One of the opportunities we recognise that we have at The Marble Group is who we have speaking on our panels at our monthly thought leadership breakfasts. Our panellists represent their industry - tech, finance, creative industries are some of the sectors we've covered so far. This year we have deliberately only programmed women to be on these panels - most of these highly talented, industry leading individuals have commented on the rarity of this, which is why we think it's important to do it. As a largely female agency, we are lucky to see and hear from the women at the top of their game in change making businesses. We always push our clients to consider representation at their Experiences and to make choosing a diverse mix of men, women and backgrounds a concerted, conscientious decision, rather than a coincidence. Clearly there is more than a deep need to keep pushing harder in 2024. AI and emerging tech should be a great leveller and it's important we don't have industries dominated by stereotype, so - together - lets make sure we don't.

Last week, I had the privilege of attending "Architects of AI: Women Powering ML Ops" where Autumn Moulder led a panel consisting of rockstar engineers & leaders Jessica Xie, Cécile Robert-Michon, Ye Shen, and Leila Chan Currie. I was blown away by these incredible women working in the generative AI space. Key learnings (paradoxically represented by an incandescent lightbulb) 💡 Some of the key engineering challenges in taking AI to production: - GPU constraints: you can't serve the models if you don't have the computing power to run it - consider what can be centralized and what needs to be run on a client's computers - Balancing performance and cost: higher latency costs $$ - Evaluation: how can you tell the model after fine-tuning is working better, and how much better? 💡 AI is a new field, and there's no such thing as AI engineer with 20 years of experience. The best thing you can do is to start learning! Where do I start? 📕 Cohere has a learning centre for Natural language processing and Large Language Models called LLM University ➡️ https://lnkd.in/giTuiiPB 📗 Cognizant created this Generative AI Handbook that introduces the basics and touches on business implementation ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gGikbfKf 📘 Harvard University has a couple free courses, such as CS50 AI ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gkNh3--T I would highly recommend watching the webinar below! 👇 What other AI/ML/NLP/LLM resources do you recommend? #ai #womenintech #mlops
At Cohere, we proudly celebrate International Women's Day! We recently gathered five exceptional women from our team to share their stories and highlight the numerous ways in which women have shaped the tech industry and machine learning operations. Watch the webinar with Autumn Moulder, Director of Infrastructure; Cécile Robert-Michon, Member of Technical Staff, Infrastructure; Ye Shen, Member of Technical Staff, Fine-tuning; Jessica Xie, Member of Technical Staff, Infrastructure, and Leila Chan Currie, Member of Technical Staff, Model Serving. First PCGamer, and now the New York Times... we're almost in 2024 and there's still a lack of recognition for the incredible impact that women have made in #AI and #videogames over the past 30+ years. According to Deloitte, women represent only 22% of AI and Computer Science Ph.D programs in the US. And while they make up nearly 50% of gamers worldwide, women hold only 24% of game developer roles. These industries may not seem related, however, women who play video games in their early life are also 11% more likely to pursue a degree in STEM. It's not enough that we leave the ladder down, we need to actively help others to climb if we want to see these numbers change. And as we look forward to the Game Awards later this week, I'm hopeful that these discussions will lead into actions, so that we can shape more inclusive worlds and develop unbiased solutions. If you're still having trouble, here's a short list of prominent #womeningaming from Amir S.: https://lnkd.in/gSECPYwZ And here's a recent list of innovative #womeninai, from Forbes: https://lnkd.in/gaYN6ezP and a great second perspective from Sharon Goldman at VB: https://lnkd.in/g2xdiUMz "I’d prefer to moderate conference panels that focus squarely on serious and interesting AI issues without being embarrassed by the fact that the only female panelists in the entire conference are on my panel."
