We might not be able to shop at work, but we certainly hunted for treasure! Last week, employee-owners at our corporate office participated in our first ever “Trade and Treasure”, a sustainable shopping experience where employee-owners brought in over 615 gently used or brand new items to our “store” and discovered someone else’s treasures to take home. GLC continually looks for ways to make sustainability a win-win experience. This event allowed employee-owners to create space in their homes, save money, minimize their environmental impact by reusing instead of buying new, and connect with colleagues in a fun, new way. Proud that IKEA is part of this great coalition! Every drop counts! This year’s World Water Day stresses the importance of unity to protect and conserve our world’s most precious resource. At 50L Home, we bring together companies, city governments, civil society, intergovernmental organizations, and knowledge leaders to develop, scale and implement innovations to transform urban communities for a water-efficient and low carbon future. Some members of our coalition including Electrolux Group, IKEA, Kohler Co., and Procter & Gamble are joining forces with the U.S. Green Building Council - Los Angeles to implement a demonstration pilot in Los Angeles, California. This unique effort to integrate solutions from different market leaders will demonstrate how existing and new innovations can achieve substantial savings in domestic water consumption and the energy associated with it. Two of our partners, Droople and Flume, along with Rainbird, are participating by supplying their products. Beyond the product innovations, we are also working with cities, utilities, and an advisory board of industry leaders to identify the policies, regulations, and codes that may need to be revised to encourage maximum efficiency. We are also working with a research organization to help us better understand customer needs and the best ways to help them make the most environmentally responsible choices. Initial data from our effort is exciting and we can’t wait to share it. When we do, we will work with other cities to help them apply our findings so their citizens can live in homes where 50L of water feels like 500L.
