This year’s Great Hearts Arizona Summer Camps, which ran from June 3rd to June 28th, were a huge success. Hosted at Great Hearts Archway (Grades K-5) academies across the Valley, the camps and kinder readiness programs served an average of 800 scholars per week, totaling over 1,240 scholars throughout the summer. This marks one of the highest attended summer programs at Great Hearts Arizona to date. #greathearts #summercamps #summer #arizona #K5 #summermemories

I have just learnt of this amazing UK school which was founded over 100 years ago, so ahead of its time! Summerhill School believes lessons should be a child's choice and learning an invitation. They value the importance of play: "At Summerhill, play belongs to the child. We do not dress up learning situations so that the play will be 'productive', we do not look on and evaluate what they might learn from this or that game. Our children just play — and they can do it pretty well all day if they want to". Despite this, most students decide to sit for GCSE exams when they are ready (can be earlier or later than UK norm), demonstrating that children are more in-tune with their development and needs than are often given credit for. This 'Freedom Not Licence/Freedom with Responsibility' approach that the school takes equates to "do as you like - but you must not interfere with somebody else's freedom" and as a result they have common sense guidelines/rules such as 'no playing drums at 4am'. They are a democratic, self-governing community where children have equal vote to adults in the weekly meeting where decisions are made. It has elements of homeschooling, Ross Greene's CPS and alternative schooling philosophies such as Montessori and Steiner. However, never have I seen a school or system take a child's choice/autonomy to this level. We need to take some important lessons from this 100 year old UK example. #AlternativeEducation #EducationReform #HolisticEducation #BehaviourReframe #SelfDetermination #EmotionalDevelopment #ChildDevelopment

When families come to visit Westtown School the first comment I always get is "How do I let my son go at such a young age." I think when you step back from the idea and dive deeper into the WHY, you realize this can be a life changing opportunity. Here are 5 reasons why I believe families should consider boarding school: 1 - Academic Excellence: Private boarding schools often boast rigorous academic programs, smaller class sizes, and highly qualified teachers. This environment can foster a culture of academic excellence, encouraging students to reach their full potential and excel in their studies. 2 - Personal Development: Living away from home in a boarding school environment can promote independence, self-discipline, and responsibility. Students learn to manage their time effectively, balance academic and extracurricular activities, and develop essential life skills that prepare them for college and beyond. 3 - Diverse Community: Boarding schools typically attract students from diverse backgrounds, both geographically and culturally. This diversity enriches the learning experience by exposing students to different perspectives, ideas, and traditions, fostering a more inclusive and globally-minded community. 4 - Extracurricular Opportunities: Private boarding schools often offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, clubs, and community service initiatives. Students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop talents, and pursue leadership roles, contributing to a well-rounded education and personal growth. 5 - Preparation for College: Boarding schools are known for their comprehensive college preparatory programs, which include guidance counseling, standardized test preparation, and college admissions support. Students receive personalized attention and support throughout the college application process, increasing their chances of gaining admission to top-tier universities and pursuing their academic and career goals. #BoardingSchoolExperience #FamilyFriendlyEducation #PrivateSchoolCommunity #DiscoverBoardingSchools #QualityEducation #BoardingSchoolLife #FamilyFirstEducation #IndependentSchools #BoardingSchoolAdventures #EducationalJourney #CloseKnitCommunity #ExploreBoardingSchools #AcademicExcellence #LifeAtBoardingSchool #SupportiveEnvironment #StudentSuccessStories #HomeAwayFromHome #GlobalEducationExperience #BoardingSchoolTradition Tejan Walcott To learn more about Westtown School and the boys soccer program visit: https://www.westtown.edu/

Great piece by Afterschool Alliance on Tuscaloosa City Schools’ Summer Learning work. We know for SURE that summer is the thief that has BEEN robbing us of learning gains students make during the year. And we know that some kiddos lose more learning than their peers when they are away from school. Summer Learning is (or should be) the guard that stops that theft. Lots of folks are figuring out how to “afford” summer learning. That’s backward. The better question is how we can honestly think we can afford not to protect our gains. https://lnkd.in/gzZgrsrf

Lisa is right that transition is an important rite of passage, and I find it interesting that schools can do it so differently. With that in mind, what do you like to see on transition day(s)? #inspireminds #learningaswelive
It was with great anticipation that we welcomed our 2025 Year 7s to their first orientation day today. Transition to high school is such an important rite of passage in a young person’s life and we see it as a privilege to lead them on this journey. We look forward to connecting at various points in the year as we welcome so many families into our beautiful community Kingswood College Melbourne. To the class of 2030, we are already so proud of you!!! #year7transition #learnaswelive #education #excellence #courage #perseverance #kindness #respect

Apart from resonating with this as a fellow Saint, the key points of his speech encapsulate what all of us should aspire as lifelong learners. 1. Your grades at school do not define you 2. Work hard and chase your dreams 3. Care for others (and society by extension) 4. Embrace change and continuous learning 5. Stay inquisitive
It was back to school for me about a week ago at the St. Andrew’s Village at Potong Pasir! I felt privileged and proud to be invited back as guest-of-honour at the St. Andrew’s Junior College 45th Anniversary College Day. St. Andrew’s School itself is 161 years old this year. Privileged because, aside from the influence of my parents, the privilege of a St. Andrew’s education has helped shape my life and who I am. Proud because St. Andrew’s has a long tradition of going beyond academic grades to focus on inclusiveness and character building. During my speech, I told the story of Mrs. Elizabeth Choy, World War II heroine, who was my teacher at St. Andrew’s Junior School to help illustrate the following points: (1) work hard - be passionate about your areas of interest and what you believe in (2) care for others - contribute to society (3) adopt an inquisitive learning attitude - embrace continuous lifelong learning I concluded with a big thank you to the teachers past and present. Their vocation is indeed of life-changing consequence. I have been requested to post a copy of my speech, so here’s the link for those interested: https://lnkd.in/eKpZj7MV #education #StAndrewsSchoolsSingapore #alumni Kine Thong Tham
