Get Beyond
Like so many, I joined for a greater cause, a bigger picture, sense of purpose and to build something special. I never imagined though, that “special” would have been an understatement. To the many people that were bound together, that trusted the process and truly valued each other, that’s more than special. Unheard of really.
To a recruiter I got to work with, you know who you are, thanking you doesn’t do words justice. You are a phenomenal asset and a better human.
To my direct leader: I have had a handful of managers, very few leaders and I can’t thank you enough for the daily motivation, inspiration and encouragement.
To Enablement: if there was a question, we all knew you were there to support and assist. Many people often say “they’d be lucky to have you”…. Meh… Honored is more like it.
The Team: “I put this team up against any other team”. Well? Results are in and we did not just compete, we won. 🙌
Thank You Get Beyond,
We will carry on the vision, the mission, and the values. Heck,we’re just getting started!

3️⃣ steps to becoming “lucky” in your career.
Most of the executives I’ve spoken to, got their big opportunity by doing the little things right. Along their journey, they:
1. Took immense pride in everything attached to their name.
2. Continued to learn and develop themselves.
3. Accepted opportunities they didn’t feel “ready” for.
Doing these 3 things for 10+ years led to creating relationships with the right people.
Sometimes, we see executives and say:
“Mike (CMO) only got that job because he knows Jessica (CEO)”
You’re absolutely right!
What you don’t know is that Mike reported to Jessica for 5 years at a previous company.
He never knew she was going to be a CEO one day.
Jessica clearly saw something in Mike at that time, so she gave him an opportunity.
When you get a few Jessica’s on your team, you get really “lucky.”
The only way to get those relationships, is being so consistent that the right people notice and remember you.
At that point, is it really luck?
Today, work sent me a note to congratulate me on my 6 years at Cinchy.
I wanted to take a minute to reflect on my experience. 🕘
Working for a start-up isn't for the faint of heart, but it is incredibly rewarding. I never underestimate the value of having a strong purpose that makes the work so much more fulfilling.
Here are 3 things that I've taken away from my experience that I know will be applicable regardless of what I do.
1. Doing more with less. 🏋️
Early days you've got to get your hands dirty and figure things out. This is something that I've appreciated and believe it positions me to be flexible and puts me in a place to be creative to find ways to make things work.
2. Keeping an open mind to the way I work 👀
I get the privilege of working with so many great people who have done so many amazing things. These people bring in their vast experience and I have the pleasure of learning from them every day so I can refine our outcomes to be more effective and efficient.
3. The importance of relationships & early adopters 🤝
As a lesser-known brand facing numerous challenges, including political shifts, competing with "change" and vendor competition, I deeply value the trust our clients place in us, risking their reputations and careers. This is something I never take lightly and will hold these relationships for a very long time. Regardless of whatever the situation, I'll always be there to help.
Thanks for taking the time to read my reflection.
Some people are just made for this kind of work.
When they are on the job, everything clicks. They are in their element, doing what they do best, and it’s easy to see that there’s nowhere they’d rather be.
Doug Wallace is one of those people.

📕 "Why is this such a profound statement? Building a Supportive Network and The Power of Having True Advocates." Here's why this is so important:
In the journey of life and career, it's crucial to surround yourself with the right people, those who will actually speak up for you in a room full of opportunities. This simple concept holds profound significance because it directly impacts your visibility, credibility and access to new possibilities.
Imagine being in a room buzzing with opportunities - job openings, exciting projects, potential collaborations. In such a setting, having advocates who have no hesitation to mention your name can make all the difference. When someone speaks positively about you, they are not just acknowledging your talents; they are endorsing your capabilities and potential.
These advocates are more than just acquaintances; they are individuals who genuinely believe in you. They become your allies, mentors, or friends in professional settings. Their support and trust in your abilities can open doors that you might not have known existed.
The act of mentioning your name in the right circles enhances your visibility. Suddenly, you are on the radar of decision-makers and influencers. This increased exposure can lead to a cascade of opportunities - new job offers, exciting projects, or even promotions within your current role.
When others vouch for you, it adds a layer of validation to your skills and character. It builds your reputation and credibility within your industry or community and people start associating your name with competence and professionalism.
Building a network of advocates is a strategic investment in your long-term growth and success. These are the individuals who will support you during both highs and lows, offering guidance, opportunities and sometimes just a reassuring word when needed.
To cultivate such relationships, start by nurturing genuine connections. Seek out individuals who share similar values and ambitions. Be generous in offering your support and encouragement to others as well. Networking isn't just about collecting business cards; it's about building meaningful relationships based on mutual respect and trust.
As you progress, remember the importance of reciprocity. Be the advocate for others that you hope to have for yourself. Celebrate the successes of your colleagues and offer help when you can.
Having advocates who will speak your name is a game-changer. It's not just about networking; it's about fostering genuine connections with people who see your potential and are willing to champion your cause.
Start nurturing relationships, sharing your goals and offering support to others. Together, let's create a community where everyone thrives and succeeds. Your advocates are out there, go find them and cultivate meaningful connections that will propel you towards your dreams.
