One of the best things I've done in the last year was join People Helping People of Utah as a career mentor. This grassroots, non-profit helps low-income women and single mothers get back into the workforce and/or land jobs with higher pay and better insurance. Here are a few facts if you are interested in joining. 🤝You do NOT have to be a recruiter to be a volunteer (although, if you have talent acquisition experience, it's a plus). 🤝There are three ways to volunteer and you can pick your preference based on your own schedule. 🤝This is fully remote volunteer work, so even if you live outside of Utah, you can help. 🙌🏼Helping others may just be the secret to living a more purposeful life. It boosts your own self-esteem and adds to your network through meaningful connection. You can join through their website: https://www.phputah.org Or email their program coordinator, Ella Ernst for more info. #letsgrowtogether #volunteer #linkedinconnections #helpingeachother

Approximately 1.2 million Californians work for a nonprofit. 1 of every 14 California jobs is at a nonprofit. Nonprofits rank as the 4th largest employer by number of jobs among key California industries, with more employees than construction, and the 3rd largest in total wages paid. California’s volunteers contribute the equivalent of 331,000 full-time jobs each year Nonprofit staff are more diverse in gender and race/ ethnicity than the general workforce. Two words - community service. It's never too late to start and donate time to your community. A colleague, personal advisor and former big law firm attorney is doing just that - with a ministry he's developed at 42nd and Post Road. There are services 2x a month with a dinner. Soccer is the volunteer sport pulling together Latino and Black families. Those in need can apply for rent support while getting back into employment. A partnership has been developed with IPS for a school that has a 60 percent ESL population. Reality is realization. You don't need a vision board or a list. And you shouldn’t be accepting this kind of work for a click on your resume. You just need to roll up your sleeves and get it done. Pick correctly and commit. And if someone isn’t doing it right, do it yourself. Once you do, most all else will fall into place. #communityservice #volunteers #indy

Getting Involved: Finding Volunteer Opportunities in Your Community Volunteering in your community is a meaningful way to make a positive impact and connect with like-minded individuals. Here are some tips to help you find volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood. 1. Research Local Nonprofit Organizations: Research nonprofit organizations in your community that align with causes you're passionate about. Look for volunteer programs or initiatives they offer. 2. These groups often organize community projects and provide opportunities to make a difference. Getting involved through volunteering allows you to contribute to your community while forming meaningful connections with others who share your passion for giving back. Worst pandemic worker of all time. I had no idea how to network when I couldn't use my in-person tactics (open body language, people being able to see my interest on my face, smiling like a fool). My new Hive friend Matthew Zager and I had the chance to chat about community + connection in the time of COVID and how so many of us are struggling to figure out that new normal. Remote/hybrid work is here to stay. If you want community and connection YOU, my nonprofit friend, will have to go out and grab ahold of it. I recommend as a first step joining our #changemakers in The Nonprofit Hive (you may even get to chat with Matt one week!) Anyone else have community building tips they found worked during the pandemic?? #community #connection #nonprofit #philanthropy #networking #communitybuilding ___________________________________________________________ Hey there, I'm Tasha and I chat on LinkedIn about marketing, nonprofits, community, relationships and parenting (in no particular order). Is service a part of your strategy to build common ground? In this article from The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Eboo Patel discusses how polarization and division around the world can be solved by encouraging volunteerism. "...volunteerism is both a well of civic energy and a tried-and-true approach to bridging divides" Read the article with the link below: https://lnkd.in/eUBVEM_6 #ServeVirginia #VirginiaVolunteers #VolunteerVA #GivebackVA #VACommunity #VolunteerinVA

Nonprofiteers are a special type of employee. They generally come into this work with the heart of a helper; they know that nonprofit work is challenging, underpaid and that your mission may forever be out of reach. Feels like with all those known deficits to your work-life you should at LEAST get a kick ass team to be in the trenches with right??? This latest article I have written for The Nonprofit Hive is all about psychological safety in nonprofit work. Or, its about the lack of it. If we are looking to solve BIG problems we need to afford our nonprofiteers the space to ask hard questions, to ideate on big solutions, to truly challenge the status quo. (and *maybe* have the opportunity to say "hey, I can't keep up this pace!") Shoutout to ALL my amazing nonprofit peeps, who drop in to my DM's, saying you want to engage with my content but just aren't quite sure how to for fear someone will see... This article is for YOU. To Eli Krakow, an associate organizer with IMPACT in Charlottesville, VA, the best part of organizing is getting to go beyond direct service to make a real difference on the issues that frustrate him the most. Eli spoke of how, as an organizer, he has “the sense that when I see things in the world that make me angry, I have a way to channel it. I volunteered before, but didn’t really have a way to direct that energy and motivation. I like having an avenue for that.” Charlottesville, like so many other cities, suffers from a lack of affordable housing, glaring gaps in the quality of public education, lack of desperately needed healthcare for the under and uninsured, and so much more. Organizers like Eli get the chance to directly fight these unjust policies, winning tangible improvements in their communities. Are you looking for a place to channel your energy for change? We’re hiring organizers across the country - find more info here: https://lnkd.in/gM8MaCc2 #communityorganizing #DART #localpolitics #justice #nonprofitjobs #JobsInJustice

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday dedicated to volunteerism. FEWER PEOPLE ARE VOLUNTEERING: Even as the need for help has increased, the number of Americans who formally volunteer has continued to decline. The pandemic alone isn’t responsible for the decreased number of volunteers in America. The pandemic exacerbated shortages, but the decline in volunteering predates it, a slow but steady drop for the past 13 years. A number of factors are fueling the decline, researchers say, all playing havoc with the thousands of nonprofits that rely on the generosity — and labor — of others to fulfill their missions. Read more: https://lnkd.in/egvWF2xk HOW TO ATTRACT & RETAIN VOLUNTEERS FOR THE ARTS: Research shows that most performing arts organizations retain 60-70% of their volunteers from one season to the next, which is great. That said, losing 30-40% of your labor force every season poses difficulties for continuity and training, so you must make the volunteers feel needed and appreciated. You have two immediate advantages. One, many people feel good about themselves devoting time to causes and organizations they believe in. Two, you have productions which attract the public, which means you have a built-in way to attract volunteers. Here are some key ways to attract and retain new volunteers: https://lnkd.in/eDyfkE6G HOW TO ENGAGE DIFFERENT GENERATIONS OF VOLUNTEERS: The selfless act of volunteering is timeless, transcending generational boundaries. However, each generation holds distinctive characteristics with different prevailing beliefs, attitudes, and values. Engaging volunteers requires a thoughtful and tailored approach. The more that you are able to offer opportunities and outreach with an awareness of [their] unique characteristics and capacities, the more you will strengthen your program. As kids dress up as superheroes today, we think of all the volunteers who save the world every day! Did you know that between April 2021 and March 2022, 62% of organizations in Ontario lost volunteers? The largest impact hit health, sports and faith organizations. More than 50 per cent face difficulty recruiting new volunteers. 40 per cent reported they cannot convince previous ones to return. 25% of volunteers give 77% of volunteer hours. With the highest rate of retirement in decades, we have a large pool of people seeking something meaningful to do. That's why we offer the chance for people to discover opportunities that they may not existed. If your organization needs high-flying -- or hard-working -- helpers, come see what options we already have in plain view. Up, up and away, we can all build a community that soars ==> https://buff.ly/48p5ewI #VolunteersRock #ItTakesaTeam #Volunteers #Volunteering #Volunteerism #VolunteerPeterborough #TryItTuesday Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough Peterborough County Peterborough and Area Fundraisers Network Trent University Careerspace
