Women, LGBTQIA+ people, and the families who depend on us have a lot at stake in the upcoming #FarmBill. Women—especially Black, Latina, and Native women, women with disabilities, and immigrant women—and LGBTQIA+ individuals have long been disproportionately likely to experience poverty, hunger, and hardship. They are also more likely to rely on SNAP, our nation’s bedrock anti-hunger program that will be reviewed in the upcoming Farm Bill. Watch a webinar sponsored by the National Women's Law Center and featuring experts from FRAC, UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS), and MomsRising.org, to learn more about what’s at stake for women, LGBTQIA+ people, and families in the Farm Bill; opportunities to strengthen nutrition, child care, and public health in this legislation; and how you can get involved. https://lnkd.in/gGWEs4gD

"The journey to generational wealth for Black and Latina women is ladened with obstacles, but programs like Family Self-Sufficiency can provide a roadmap for overcoming these challenges, one family at a time. By addressing systemic disparities and leveraging economic resources to help families increase their earning potential and build savings, we can break down those barriers for women to secure a brighter future for themselves and their families." -- Markita Morris-Louis, Esq., CEO of Compass Working Capital, a national nonprofit working to end asset poverty for families with low incomes and narrow the racial and gender wealth gap. ICYMI: Some excerpts from The White House Proclamation on Women's History Month: "Despite the progress that... visionaries have achieved, there is more work ahead to knock down the barriers that stand in the way of women and girls realizing their full potential — in a country founded on freedom and equality, nothing is more fundamental... We are making sure women have access to the resources they need to enter and remain in the workforce, including high-quality, affordable child care. My Administration’s American Rescue Plan helped working mothers, especially during the most challenging times of the pandemic, by keeping the doors of 220,000 child care centers open — 90 percent of which are owned and staffed by women... Vice President Harris and I are fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom.... I have taken action to safeguard access to reproductive care, including abortion and contraception... This Women’s History Month, may we recognize the long, storied history of great women helping to realize our Nation’s founding promise and highest aspirations. May we all continue working to build a world worthy of the dreams and goals of all women and girls." #womenshistorymonth #womensfuture #worthyworld https://lnkd.in/ehFDDbpY

🔊 As part of Comic Relief’s Power Up Initiative, IWGIA contributed to the learning briefing “Feminist movements’ research and advocacy on GBV” – a feminist analysis of power to movement-building and influence. 👉Read more: https://bit.ly/42lkGY2 Gender-based violence (GBV) is patriarchy in practice; an expression of structural inequity and lack of recognition and power of women in society, exacerbated for women who face discrimination or are minoritized in any way. 👂In order to accurately name the nature and impacts of #GBV, it is key to listen to the lived experience of women and girls. 💡 IWGIA has drawn on its experience working with #Indigenous women and girls’ organizations and movements to bring to light the issues that Indigenous women face, and to include their contributions and inspiration they bring for positive change. For example, IWGIA’s strategy includes supporting Indigenous women in their advocacy efforts through capacity development, awareness raising, campaigning, and strategic participation in spaces for their voices to be heard by important decision-makers. With this briefing, IWGIA hopes to bring inspiration to others from our work with Indigenous women while simultaneously collaborating with other #HumanRights organizations to raise awareness and understand cross-cutting challenges for ending GBV. 👉Read more: https://bit.ly/42lkGY2 #IndigenousPeoples

‘Better’ funding means accessible, flexible, long-term, core funding that is rights-based and supports feminist movement building and organizational capacity building. ‘Better’ funding also means that the constituencies supported – the true experts in their fields – help shape the grantmaking process and build a movement infrastructure that is responsive to their needs by including collective care and protection.
