What a gorgeous day we had last weekend, full of community involvement! We love being involved in each unique neighborhood we’re located in, and we were proud to be a sponsor of the Steel City Duck Derby this past weekend. We were happy to support this event for Partners For Quality, an organization dedicated to empowering over 5,000 individuals facing intellectual disabilities and behavioral health challenges. Beyond being a sponsor at this event, we're honored to collaborate with Partners For Quality to staff our Project Assistance Team at Grandpa Joe's. It was a blast joining in on the fun for such a great cause! #Community #GrandpaJoesCandyShop #SteelCityDuckDerby #PartnersForQuality #MakingADifference

By the year 2050, children and elderly individuals will constitute about 45% of the population. Working towards a comfortable environment is also working for our future and the future of our society. At the same time, it's not just age that requires careful planning: parenthood, trauma, illness – factors that, temporarily or situationally, place individuals in vulnerable groups. Within the framework of the "Inclusive City" course, Ilona Elyashevich presented what should guide the design of urban spaces to make them comfortable and accessible for everyone. #moo_cud #community #cud #inclusivecity

Despite being a few years old, this article on common tenant types in supported living is still highly relevant. 🔍 It highlights core groups with long-term needs like learning disabilities and autism, as well as those facing short-term challenges such as homelessness and domestic abuse. As society continues to recognise the importance of inclusive, tailored support for vulnerable populations, understanding these diverse tenant groups and their unique needs is more crucial than ever. Essential reading for housing providers, social workers, and policymakers to navigate the evolving landscape of supported living. #SupportedLiving #Housing #SocialWork #InclusiveSupport #VulnerablePopulations

If any of my followers are wondering why I am not regularly updating my posts here, it is because I am a 47 year old familyless disabled man suffering from a confluence of physical & mental disabilities. I live in Silicon Valley, California, USA in a month-to-month rental residence. Since December 15, 2023, my IHSS (In Home Supportive Services) has been cut off. Since then, due to my disabilities, almost all of my time is spent taking care of myself and struggling to meet basic needs like food and keeping my rental residence clean so that there are no complaints, as has been the case since 2015 in other Silicon Valley rentals. I have been disabled with Spinal Injury since 2015 and wrist injury since Dec 2014...and mental injuries since Apr 2008. On Monday, January 8, 2024 I faced racism and discrimination again at, at least two different locations, one of them being "Downer Square, 430 Blossom Hill Rd, San Jose, CA 95123." The Downer Square incident is important. So since then I have been preparing an audio-visual report of the incident for the world to see on my YouTube channels. I have already received two cutoff warnings from LinkedIn that some of you may be aware of. I use LinkedIn strictly for professional purposes. Therefore, I will only be uploading this report of mine also on YouTube and won't be sharing it's link here. Those wishing to refer to my side of these discrimination reports & others can search for my two YouTube channels under the same name "Kal Gandikota". There is only one person in the entire world with that name. #anything4democracy #lastmilegraduate #InGodWeTrust

Did you know? According to Burke: Play That Moves You, outdoor spaces foster connections, community pride, and engagement for everyone. Throughout our lives, connection is important and improves our mental health, outlook on life, physical health, and creates a support system in our communities. Bennett's Village believes this connection should be available for everyone in a community no matter how they move or interact! [Image description: A blurred background of a colorful playground with black letters at the top are "Why and inclusive play space?" A light orange circle is in the center with the words "Outdoor recreational spaces connect us to the outdoors, to the community, and to ourselves!" in black letters. A group of 7 children are holding hands in a circle and laughing. Burke: Play That Moves You is cited in the bottom right corner.] #BennettsVillage #APlaceForAllToPlay #Play4All #ItTakesAVillage #InclusivePlayground #InclusivePlay #InclusivePlaySpace #PlayIsLearning #DesignForAll #BuildCommunity #PlaygroundFun #Accessibility #InclusionMatters #Inclusion #AllAbilities #LoweringBarriersToPlay #Charlottesville #CharlottesvilleVA #CvilleVA #BennettsVillagePlaySpace #AccessiblePlaySpaces #AllAbilitiesWelcome #ILoveCville #AlbemarleCounty

I love this post! We need to make inclusion a principle instead of a policy. We must acknowledge that it is a human right and the responsibility of every member of our community. Let's ensure that "all means all." Check out this informative video and post on the significance of inclusion. #inclusion #community #theguildinternationalcollege

Confession: Being a Mother to an adult with Down syndrome, Sara, I often feel the need to be in control, and in the past few years, I have been actively working on differentiating between my love for her and her individuality. Negative assumptions about people with Down syndrome can lead to treating them in such a way that these assumptions become reality. Why not reverse our perspectives? This #WorldDownSyndromeDay, #AssumeThatICan! Great work, CoorDown, and our rock star, Madison Tevlin. The future of disability representation will take this form, sound like this, and manifest in this way. I am fully prepared and eager for its arrival. #AXSChat #WeAreBillionStrong #WDSD #SDGs #Equity #Accessibility

Assume makes an ASS-out-of-U-and-ME. By far the most effective campaign for, not only Down syndrome persons, rather all persons with a disability. Stop disabling the disabled. #assume #downsyndrome #disability #disabled #ass #you #me #neverassume

Community to me, means WE instead of me. Community to me, means US instead of THEM. Community to me, means I stand with YOU. Community to me, means we all have a role that is equitable, valued, and fulfilling. Community to me, means putting our fears of the unknown or misunderstood to rest and allowing space for those ideas to flourish. Community to me, means separating ourselves from harmful family structures that strip us of the tools we need to show up for each other. Community to me, means I want a better tomorrow for all of us, not just enough resources to escape my struggles alone. Community to me, means everything. Collective thinking, resource sharing, and mutual respect. Community > Individuality ____________________________________ Hey stranger friend! My name is Kendy Meyer, I’m a retired communication specialist turned advocate for disability awareness and dysfunctional family structures as they manifest in every day life, pop culture, and the work place.
