This morning I started my team's weekly Leaders Huddle by listening. I asked the senior leadership in my organization to share the biggest lesson they learned from the tragic events of 9/11. Many shared about where they were when the events unfolded that day. Others were too young, so they shared about the memories that older relatives passed along to them. On the aggregate, the message was about coming together in the face of tragedy and repurposing the priorities in life. The sickening feeling of the gut-punch from that day must never be forgotten. I will honor the men and women that selflessly and bravely raced towards the disaster. The helpers. For me, September 11, 2001 set in motion my mission to be a 'helper' and empower each person I work with to be the best version of themself. There's many ways we can better support each other. Please help me learn from you. How did 9/11 change your trajectory? How do you make the many sacrifices from that day (and the years that followed) truly count? How can I help you? #leadershipcoaching #neverforget #businessandleadership
🇺🇸 Honoring the Memory of 9/11 Today, we solemnly remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As the U.S. Military Academy, we stand united in solemn reflection, paying tribute to the lives lost and the heroes who emerged from the ashes of that fateful day. On this anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of Duty, Honor, and Country. May we never forget the resilience and unity that arose from that dark moment in history, and may we honor the selfless sacrifices made by those who rushed into danger, embodying the true spirit of service to our nation. #NeverForget #Honor911 #DutyHonorCountry US Army | GoArmy

Connecting employers with my unique network of veterans and people with disabilities (especially blindness). More relevant candidates, tax credits, and better retention. Doing well by doing good! Let's talk.
The work I do in support of veterans, military spouses, and people with disabilities is national (and beyond) in scope but it's always nice to get recognition locally. If you've ever wondered what I do or why I do it, this Chapin Neighbors Magazine article will answer some questions: https://lnkd.in/esTZY5Tb

A historical launch of the Honourable Paul Martin later renamed the Atlantic Erie. This is quite a contrast to the float-off technique being used at Irving Shipbuilding to launch the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships. The Canadian National Shipbuilding Strategy has strong historical roots that predate this launch, however, the historical footage is intriguing. #NationalShipbuildingStrategy #CanadianShipbuilding https://lnkd.in/e4xh35un

#military #navy #veterans #pension #orop ________ How a Specious Decision in 2004 by Navy Top Brass is adversely affecting some Navy Veterans in Pension and OROP _________ 700 NAVAL COMMANDERS WRONGED _________ Military Veterans tend to blame Civilian Bureaucrats (Babus) for all ills. However — in many cases — it is the Military Top Brass — and “Babus in Uniform” — sitting in New Delhi — who are responsible for decisions that put Military Personnel and Veterans at a disadvantage vis-à-vis their civilian counterparts and fellow veterans in other services. Given below is one example. Navy not implement AVSC Cadre Review (2004) on par with Army and Air Force. Surely — Civilian Bureaucrats are not responsible for this specious decision by Navy Top Brass in 2004 Also — 19 years have passed — but no effort is being made by Navy Top Brass to correct this wrong decision and give justice to the affected Navy Veterans who are getting less pension than their Army and Air Force counterparts for no fault of theirs. Seeing the lack of harmony in HR Policies of the 3 Defence Services — one wonders if “Jointmanship” is a mere slogan…? ____________ A WRONG DECISION BASED ON A SPECIOUS ARGUMENT ____________ Sharing an article by Raj Datta on how a wrong decision by Naval Headquarters (NHQ) in 2004 is adversely affecting Navy Veterans who retired as Commanders with more than 26 years service. Because of this wrong decision by Naval Headquarters — Navy Veterans are getting less pension than their counterparts in Army and Air Force who were promoted to Colonel and Group Captain ranks after 26 years service — whereas Navy Officers with 26 years service were not promoted to Captain (IN) rank. The disparity in pension has further widened after implementation of OROP On the one hand we talk of “jointmanship” — but on the other hand — each service takes its own arbitrary HR decisions — thus creating disparity between personnel of the defence services. Will the Government, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Navy Chief (CNS) correct this unfair disparity and give justice to the aggrieved Navy Veterans…? ___________ 700 NAVAL COMMANDERS WRONGED ___________ Click link below to read the full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/d9nACYsR 👇

How about an alternative route to market for the hundreds of software, AI, sensor companies looking at solving the challeges of government and defense customers? One where THEY capture the value THEY bring. Here's what you can build on today.
Walking through defense trade shows and engaging in discussions in Washington D.C., I’ve come to realize we're at a pivotal moment. The brilliant minds behind the 20th century's monumental defense & aerospace inventions—the Space Shuttle, the Internet, and the early work in autonomy—are nearing retirement with no clear succession plan. I see this as a prime opportunity to elevate the defense sector, rebuild its industrial base, and address the toxic culture left from the consolidation era of the '90s. To paraphrase Y Combinator’s mantra, our primary responsibility will always be to build capabilities that our defense end users actually want. Yet, to achieve this, there are essential issues we must tackle: 1. Combat the entrenched wastefulness in government programs, driven mainly by the cost-plus contracting; 2. Build an ecosystem of partnerships that is inclusive, moving beyond the exploitation of subcontractors; 3. Bring high-quality talent, especially software engineers, into the same rooms as military members; 4. Reform procedures that prevent the use of modern software engineering in defense platforms. I am excited that we are building that future at Picogrid, together with several other upstarts pulling all-nighters in/around El Segundo (Neros Technologies, Hadrian, Rainmaker Technology Corporation, Rangeview...), and groups of engineers and military members obsessed about keeping a high bar on quality all across the country.
