Sales Rep A: Hires a "virtual assistant", gives them no training, doesn't manage them, and then complains that hiring overseas team members doesn't work. Sales Rep B: Understand they are hiring a HUMAN from another country, not a robot. Clearly defines what success in the role looks like. Clearly outlines & documents the task(s) they want to be completed. Clearly defines a reporting cadence of deliverables & a way to track them so they don't micromanage. They end up loving overseas talent and crushing their competition. Hate to break it to you: If you have had bad experiences with overseas talent, most likely, it's a YOU problem.

At this stage, a VP of Sales can: ✅ Build a scalable sales process ✅ Hire 5-7 more reps to accelerate ✅ Onboard and manage the growing team Must-have's for this leader: ✅ Proven sales leader in the past at a startup with the same buyer ✅ 7+ yrs end-to-end experience as an AE themself ✅ Ability to forecast/hit numbers ✅ Proven abillity to onboard, grow, and manage a team of AEs ✅ Has built, iterated, and scaled sales processes on their own ✅ Works extremely well cross-functionally with marketing and product Anything else you'd add to this list? “We don’t have this, we don’t have that, it’s only me and a spreadsheet” = WE LOVE IT!! Here are some Founder-led sales observations: 1. We don’t really use the CRM, we use a spreadsheet ❤️ 2. We don’t really have a written down b2b sales process ❤️ 3. It’s only me and my Co-Founder selling… ❤️ 4. We don’t really do any consistent lead generation ❤️ 5. We don’t have an account management or existing customer growth process ❤️ 6. We’re not sure how long our sales process is ❤️ 7. We have quite a range of diferent customers and profiles ❤️ 8. We’re not clear on our USPs ❤️ 9. Our website doesn’t communicate our proposition clearly ❤️ 10. We’re not sure about who to hire, when to hire, do we hire a senior sales leader? ❤️ Often what I’ve found as we have had more success with the Founder-led to team-led sales transformation, more case studies, more clients is that tech founders often still believe they are still too small or not the right profile. They are quite a few €1-3 Million ARR B2B SaaS businesses that are Founder-led or have very small teams, based off spreadsheets and very little process. The product and your determination has got you to this point but won’t get you to the next level. This is where we lean in, we love the “lack of” or “we don’t have this” language. We have an opportunity to build things from scratch, from the base without undoing or untangling lots of legacy stuff. We’re here for you Founders, Sales for Startups would love to speak to you. And when you don’t have anything, our ears will prick up!! 😀
