Getting Rooted: Getting rooted is going deep and enacting the full theory of change in New Orleans first – impacting policy and practice in schooling, housing, and employment. We will develop our regional model in order to scale effectively in other regions. Getting rooted is working with partners in New Orleans to define the metrics and targets that indicate equity has been achieved – what success looks like. For all the budding entrepreneurs, this can be a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of innovation and entrepreneurship in the heart of Silicon Valley (Stanford's d.school). I was a participant of this program in 2019 (then, it was called the Silicon Valley Innovation Academy). And during this program, I decided to shut down my last startup, that I had been working on for more than a year. Multiple startup events, competitions (several of which we won), and accelerator programs couldn't teach me what I learnt here in 10 weeks. Things like, what really matters in a founding team, frameworks of innovation thinking and exposure to what is already possible in the world. On top of it, I have also gained some great friends, across different cultures, through this program. Apply for this program and feel free to connect with me if you have any questions. #innovation #entrepreneurship #technology #startup

Honored to speak to the Real Estate Club at the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics. I chose a simple (not easy) topic: 𝟱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘀. - 1- They possess energy/enthusiasm beyond their peers. They are passionate about the basics. 2- They embody thankfulness, not entitlement. They feel lucky while simultaneously increasing their luck surface area. 3- They understand the market and ride the wave of momentum. (Property example = adding capitalized value.) 4- They understand cycles and protect against over-leverage while building wealth. (Property example = floating debt and rising expenses disaster.) 5- They hold relationships as paramount over deals, fees, and profits. Long-term trusting relationships are golden. An impressive group of students. 🚀 “𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥.” - 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩

New Orleans History Lessons... * I was curious what commerce looked like in the early 1800s. * After a four-month voyage from Pittsburgh down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, a steamboat named New Orleans arrived in its namesake city on the 12th of Jan. 1812. This event - the first steamboat to navigate the Mississippi - marked a revolution in commerce and travel on the #river, allowing for movement both upstream and downstream to begin. Two-way steam driven boat traffic on the river led to significant growth and prosperity for the city of New Orleans over the next 50 years. * The Mississippi River, which is approximately 2,350 miles long from its source in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, where it empties, has been vital to colonial European and, later, American interests since Hernando de Soto set his eye upon it in 1541. (a story for another time!) * With the development of steam technology in the early 19th century, New Orleans became one of the #largestports in the #world. The city handled #trade from the #mississippirivervalley as well as the Eastern seaboard, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America. * Pretty impressive that the shipping industry on the Mississippi began in 1812, OFFICIALLY! * PHOTO: This photo is from ca. 1860, at the Port of New Orleans, which was a bustling hub of steamboat traffic.
