My dad used to say "Don't change your barber, tailor, and priest" because his barber knew that he didn't want a razor but a clipper 🪒 because his tailor knew he wanted precisely two pleats in his trousers 👖 because his priest knew the exact angle at which the conch in our home needs to be held for it to be blown 🐚 This is what is INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE It's tacit and comes from contextual experience which is difficult to pass on because of its incidental nature and typically learnt in the process where learning that in itself is not the #goal So, when tailors started vanishing, he had a hard time finding the right fit of readymade trousers with those two pleats when he had to go to salons, he was very cautious that razors are not used by the randomly assigned hair dressers when the priest got busy and started sending his different relatives to perform the rituals, he had to explain in detail every single time the way rituals were performed in our house All of this caused him a lot of #frustration Organizations need people with institutional knowledge to create a great #customerexperience To succeed in your #job you need institutional knowledge To succeed in your profession you need #thoughtleadership To succeed in your #career you need both What are you doing to access and leverage the institutional knowledge required in your role? #knowledgesharing #knowledgework for #careergrowth follow Abhijit Bhattacharya 🔔

Interesting observation on the cost of barber services in the USA 🇺🇸 vs UK 🇬🇧! A wet shave seems to come with a premium price tag in the UK, although it is on par with a haircut in the US. The justification? The steep price is due to the unique expertise involved and the additional cost of materials.
