Our incredible Executive Director for 25 years, Sally Graham, is retiring in December 2024. We will miss her leadership, dedication, and vision for GoochlandCares. Although many in Goochland County will miss her, she has done so much for our community and deserves a wonderful retirement. 💙 Vision + Faithfulness 💙 A few times a year, I'll pull board minutes from past seasons at Circle of Care - Oklahoma Looking back, 2007-2011 was a critical juncture for our organization and the leaders in place had to wrestle with really tough decisions. We had passed the 90-year mark, but the landscape of serving children and families was shifting. Facing financial challenges, the board of directors had to set a vision ----> grow endowment, identify government contracts, and become a stand-alone 501c3. To grow the endowment, they understood the organization had to stop living off unrestricted estate gifts that trickle in year to year. This would be extremely difficult financially. They made a plan. Year 1 - use 75% of the estate gift in the budget, 25% invested Year 2 - use 50% of the estate gift in the budget, 50% invested Year 3 - use 25% of the estate gift in the budget, 75% invested Year 4 - 100% of the estate gift is to be invested in the endowment At the time we had approximately $7 million invested in endowment funds, but in constant need of cash to keep the lights on and doors open. In 2024, we have $38 million invested in endowment funds. (we also identified government contracts and are now a stand-alone 501c3 ✅) The leaders back then leaned into the hard, set the vision and they were faithful. Today, Circle of Care is moving into our 107th year with a firm foundation focused on living out our mission of providing Christian #helphealinghope to children and families across Oklahoma.
