When did you last hear proper feedback? Direct, Constructive, Actionable. Great graduation rates happen when you back great founders. 🎓💪 A report by our friends at LocalGlobe and Dealroom.co found that Connect is one of a handful of firms in Europe with a Series A conversion rate of over 50% within the first 36 months - over twice as high as the median. Here’s something I learned the hard way: Never start a business with a two-person board. Here's why: In my first company, I had a two-member board. At first things were fine. But towards the end of our journey together, we often ended decisions in a stalemate. I wanted to go in one direction. While my co-founder wanted to go in another direction. For instance, I wanted to sell the business to return capital to our investors, but my partner disagreed. He wanted to keep going. There wasn’t a “right” decision. We both wanted what we thought was best for our investors. These deadlocks create problems for the company. But there’s a simple solution: Add a third independent board member early on. This will help break the tie for you. They don’t always have to participate. But you can have a stipulation in the operating agreement that if you have a stalemate on two votes in a row at the board level, you have to bring them in to break the tie. As a startup, your biggest advantage is speed. So having systems that encourage speedy decision-making will help you succeed.
