Behind The Scene: Another fantastic day spent creating content at Marriott International's Al Messila, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Doha. People often ask me, 'How do you handle it all alone?' And while I shoot, edit and post all the content at the resort, I prefer saying, I don't do it alone! I'm fortunate to work with an amazing team of associates who turn each shoot into an incredible collaboration- starting with a big shout out to my Director of Marketing, Leila Aliyeva whose vision has helped shaped the direction of my content creation journey with this property under The Luxury Collection. Given my filmmaking background, it's fascinating to see how my fellow associates seamlessly take on various film roles during our shoots. There's an unspoken art director in a restaurant manager, a natural-born production assistant in a spa supervisor, and team members from the engineering department, who effortlessly become 'sparks' by assisting with extension cables for my lights. I couldn’t help but smile once when I saw an F&B associate turn into a continuity supervisor while ensuring the perfect placement of a spoon in a matching shot. Mainly, I must highlight the incredible efforts of Leila Aliyeva and my colleague Ingga Alifa during our shoots who in the spirit of teamwork, under the scorching sun, would even play the vital role of holding reflectors if a shot demanded it. It's safe to say that I work with a full-fledged film crew - even if they may not be fully aware of it! 😉Every member brings their unique talents and skills, contributing to the cinematic magic we create together every week here at Al Messila. A question every zoo or safari park employee should be asking her or himself is, "Do I know what my career goal is?" One thing that I have always told the staff working under my care is that I would be disappointed if I was to find them in the same position or that they hadn't advanced in any way, five years in the future. Doing the exact same routine not growing professionally or personally. This applied to all staff no matter where they worked within the organization. If our industry is to keep on advancing and growing, all dedicated staff need to be setting themselves goals for advancement. Keepers looking to become head keepers or section heads. Section heads to curators, studbook holders or specialist keepers. Guides to VIP guides or Marketing. Our industry is limitless in possibilities of advancement for those that wish to advance in their career by setting themselves goals. But the thing to remember is that in any professionally managed park positions won't just be handed out because of who you know or are related to. On the contrary, You will need to make sure that you have the skills and experience needed to fill the position before you are placed there, and if this is not the case then you are working in the wrong zoo. All of management need to make it part of their routine to check in with those under their supervision on a regular basis, helping and supporting them to not only set achievable goals to help them on their career path, but to also be ready to mentor those that hit walls that may slow down their progress. If, you as a staff member find that you have stopped growing professionally and it seems that the management in your zoo or safari park have no interest in the professional growth of their team members, then it's up to each individual to approach their direct supervisor requesting a time to be set aside to discuss their own professional ambitions and then have goals to be set to help them reach them. timhusband2005@gmail.com
