NATIONAL POSTAL WORKER DAY National Postal Worker Day on July 1st recognizes postal workers all across the nation and encourages us to show our appreciation. Thank the numerous men and women who work consistently and diligently to deliver all of our mail. These employees suffer some of the harshest working conditions, yet continue to persevere six days a week. #NationalPostalWorkerDay Across the United States, postal workers walk an average of 4 to 8 miles carrying a full load of letters and packages, delivering them promptly to each of our doorsteps. Approximately 490,000 postal workers across the United States head out each day to our residences and businesses. Regardless of the weather, postal workers deliver all week long. Even when temperatures fluctuate from extreme heat and cold, the mail arrives. In the rain, sleet and blizzards, too, the mail gets delivered. #RealEstateMiami #SouthFloridaRealEstate #RealEstateSunnyIsles #SunnyIslesRealEstate #SunnyIslesEstate #RealEstateSouthFlorida #MiamiRealEstate #RealEstate #Realtor #houseexpert #househunting #home #RealEstateAgent #RealEstateBroker #RealEstateExpert #RealEstateForSale #Realty #Broker #HomeForSale #HouseForSale #PropertyForSale #HomeForSaleMiami #HomeForSaleSouthFlorid

Excellent piece by Petula Dvorak in The Washington Post "Does America need a more searing visual image than eight men working for their piece of the America dream — filling potholes on a terrifying bridge in 1 a.m. darkness — to understand that our nation was built by immigrants, runs on immigrant labor and needs immigrants? -------- It’s what makes the most recent surge of anti-immigration sentiment so face-palming. We are in the middle of a stunning worker shortage. Gasped at your grocery bill? Surprised by the reduced hours at your local businesses? Having a hard time finding a health-care provider? “We hear every day from our member companies — of every size and industry, across nearly every state — that they’re facing unprecedented challenges trying to find enough workers to fill open jobs,” according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The pandemic and boomer retirement has something to do with this, but the most glaring factor is a decline in migration that’s lasted nearly a decade, the chamber folks said. We simply haven’t had enough people like Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, 38, one of the bridge workers presumed dead."

✍️ 'Sack civil servants who don’t show up to work,' writes James Price The #Government, and indeed every government, rightly comes in for wave after wave of abuse for their myriad failings across multiple fronts. But when I say “government” you are likely, and understandably, to think about the 100 or so ministers, or perhaps the cadre of roughly 100 “special advisers”, of which I am a recovering alumnus. But those 200 or so people are the only ones who change when a new administration comes in, and are also the ones who can be “held accountable” in any meaningful sense when things go wrong. When was the last time you heard of one of the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of civil servants taking real responsibility for their mistakes? An inability to move people on who aren’t up to the task would not be tolerated in the private sector, but in the public sector it is par for the course. The state is now so enormous that it’s impossible for senior #politicians to catch all the failures on a day-to-day basis, let alone get the space to look at bigger structural weaknesses. This is partially why, along with a diminution in the quality of elected representatives, there are so many major mistakes and failings. And now we are hearing that to try to coax Britain’s “Rolls Royce” civil servants back into Whitehall departments, #Cabinet Office minister John Glen wants to ensure that making full use of offices is factored into their annual reviews. Things are bad enough when #officials do actually turn up. Look at the Home Office officials who have reportedly disobeyed instructions around immigration enforcement because they thought it too mean and nasty for a sovereign nation to try to control its borders. They obfuscate, run down the clock until it is too late to action ministers’ commands, and many will subtly attempt to subvert the Government’s agenda. Read more ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eUwEMjBS

This survey is so important for policy makers to understand the issues please complete
Third week of the survey and we’re finding it difficult to reach our cross-border workers! Please circulate the link. The survey is short and all responses are anonymous. https://lnkd.in/e-pNrHKj Results so far... Where do they live? Workers living in Armagh are in the top spot (of our respondents), with Down and Donegal in joint second place and Tyrone in third place. Why did they take up the cross-border job? We've a long list of survey responses to this question, they include: *Better salary *Career progression *Closest large employer *Minimal opportunities at home *Company transferred operations across the border!
