If every Community College grad would just proudly post their CC alma-mater (along with their subsequent transfer institution, of course) it would be Transformative. One reason more people don't know of and celebrate the transformative power of Community Colleges in America -- hence the silly and often racialized stigma -- is that so many transfer students immediately delete their community college history on LinkedIn as soon as they "get in." As if attending a CC wasn't instrumental, pivotal, and transformative in achieving their dream school transfer. Which, paradoxically, only further reinforces the silly stigma they're apparently afraid of. Got stereotype threat? Gentle reminders: recently retired UCLA Chancellor Block was once a transfer student from Foothill College. And now it's on his LinkedIn. Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak both dropped out of elite colleges/universities after just one year because it wasn't worth the money. That's why they attended De Anza College. Which had fantastic computer access and CS classes. And yep, that's why Apple is still headquartered in Cupertino. Ditto Hollywood: Tom Hanks? Arnold Swarzenegger? Both are proud champions of their CC alma maters. And the list goes on and on. And on. So why not join them?
🎉 April is Community College Month! 🎉 Have you attended a #CommunityCollege or earned an associate's degree? If so, have you included this in your LinkedIn profile? 👀 👀 Let's #EndCCStigma and celebrate #CCMonth by showcasing our #TransferPride right here on LinkedIn! It’s National Black Reading Month. Did you know literacy has a profound impact on a student’s educational journey? Research shows that if a student has poor reading skills by the end of third grade, they are 4 times less likely to graduate from high school and 6 times less likely if they come from low income families. That’s why this month, we're not just turning pages; we're turning the tide for Black student achievement. Our Black Student Achievement goals include: 💫 Secure the funding necessary to uplift Black students on their educational journey. 💫 Addressing not only educational needs but also social, emotional, and community support. 💫 Inform the community at large about the current state of Black student achievement initiatives. This #NationalBlackReadingMonth, we invite you to join us on this journey: Read more on the impact of student learning loss: https://lnkd.in/gG7nn_GV

It's Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (APAW)! 💡 Did you know... ➡ An estimated 7.8 million young people participate in afterschool programs yearly in the U.S. ➡ Over 850,000 highly skilled and valuable afterschool professionals work with young people during out-of-school time (OST). ➡ Research shows that afterschool professionals are the key to program quality that mitigates risk factors and positively impacts youth outcomes. ➡ Afterschool programs run by skilled professionals result in increased social and emotional skills, school attendance, and academic performance. Recognizing afterschool professionals isn't just about acknowledging their hard work; it's also about supporting their ongoing growth and development. Providing access to professional development opportunities, such as those offered by the Forum’s Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality, is crucial for enhancing skills and effectiveness in working with young people. For more information on APAW and how to show your appreciation from the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), visit: https://lnkd.in/gXhr8pkM #HeartOfAfterschool #OSTProfessionals

In just 2 hours, I crafted a video entirely on my iPhone—from scripting to filming and editing. Here's how: •Crystal Clear Vision: I started with a precise idea of the message and atmosphere I wanted to convey, laying a solid foundation for the project. •Efficient Coaching: Quickly and effectively guiding those on camera ensured smooth filming and captured the essence of the message. Their willingness to participate was crucial. •Strategic Equipment Use: Leveraging affordable gear like $15 wireless lapels from Amazon and using cinematic mode on my iPhone, I achieved high-quality results without breaking the bank. •Intelligent Editing Decision: Editing in Canva seamlessly integrated branding elements, typography, and color schemes, resulting in a cohesive and professional video. •Action-Oriented Approach: By diving in without overthinking, I embraced creativity and spontaneity, leading to a fast and effective production. While not professional-grade, the video served its purpose effectively. Though lacking the polish of a professional studio, the video's effectiveness and quick turnaround highlight the importance of resourcefulness and maintaining standards in communication. Even with limited tools, it's possible to convey messages effectively and impactfully.
A special welcome to new students and families! We're thrilled to have you join us for the 2024-2025 school year. We can't wait to meet you all and embark on this exciting journey together! See you soon! #NewBeginnings #StAnnesCommunity

In 2022, just 39% of young men ages 18-24 who graduated high school were enrolled in college, down from 47% in 2011. Black and Latino men were impacted most by these numbers, representing just 37% and 33% of young men in college, respectively. Join us tomorrow for the National College Attainment Network (NCAN)'s Spring Institute webinar to learn more from Derrick M. Fleming, Jr., MS, Michael E. Walden, and Ezequiel Jimenez about why young men aren't pursuing a postsecondary education and what states, schools, and programs can do to help them find success and close equity gaps.
