Tomorrow marks a seminal moment in Jugalbandi's journey. Jugalbandi is part of the BHASHINI Start-up Velocity challenge, and we're ever so grateful to make it to the finals. Sameer Segal and I will take the stage to present Jugalbandi to an esteemed panel of judges to showcase what v2 can do. BHASHINI, under Amitabh Nag's leadership has catalysed innovation across fields and created a platform where more innovation is possible. Few countries in the world offer AI as a form of Digital Public Infrastructure to its citizens. BHASHINI should be embraced and improved to more adoption by innovators. We're grateful to be a part of this community enabled by BHASHINI. About the New JB Stack This new stack doesn't just expand Jugalbandi's capabilities to enable access to information; it also enables dynamic conversation and access to actions through conversational platforms such as WhatsApp. Crucially, v2 also introduces Jugalbandi Studio, a platform that democratises the ability to build Jugalbandi-powered chatbots. Simply chat with Studio and describe your flow; Studio will do the heavy lifting. Working with our partners and network, we hope to make this stack robust and enable a range of use cases. 🤖 AI = Angel Investor? If the startup winter has indeed arrived, those with artificial intelligence as their main business are feeling the heat. In the last three months alone, investors have poured over $27 billion into AI startups. This staggering figure represents nearly half of all investments that went into the entire tech sector ($56 billion) and is 57% more than the amount raised in the same period last year. The enthusiasm is so high that investors predict the AI market will surpass smartphones, computers, social networks, and the internet in the coming years, reaching over $820 billion by 2030. With high interest rates, venture capital firms see artificial intelligence as a safer investment since new innovations keep emerging—whether in generating texts, images, or videos. Bottom-line: Boosting AI is costly. Startups in the sector spend, on average, 22% on computing development, which is more than double what tech companies generally spend. Source: The News

As a repeat entrepreneur (Vectara is my third startup), I’ve seen bubbles come and go, so I learned to focus more on how well a product meets market demands rather than the hype (I leverage/draft off the hype, but I don't depend on it). It is clear that we are at the dawn of a transformative era, like, if not bigger than, the Industrial Revolution. The exponential growth in consumer and enterprise interest, and spending, in GenAI technologies undoubtedly signals a fundamental shift, not a fleeting trend. Though naturally, with any new transformative revolution (e.g. social media), a gold rush will be triggered and many startups will be formed, and while the majority of them will not survive (e.g. Friendster or MySpace), that doesn't diminish the fact that massive winners will be created (e.g. Facebook and Linkedin). Let's address the elephant in the room: skepticism about GenAI's scalability and impact within the enterprise sector. Critics questioning the viability of GenAI or casting doubts on its practical applications in business are overlooking the substantial investments and strategic shifts happening right now. Enterprise leaders are not just experimenting with GenAI; they're tripling their budgets, expanding use cases, and integrating AI into their core operational strategies. This isn't about jumping on a bandwagon or following a hype cycle. It's about recognizing a paradigm shift in how technology can drive unprecedented efficiencies, innovations, and competitive advantages across industries. Our customers, like SonoSim, Inc., are a testament to AI’s foundational role in the future of business. SonoSim is revolutionizing the approach for medical sonographers to achieve optimal system calibration. They are now able to access advice for how to perfectly calibrate ultrasound machines tailored to the machine manufacturer/model, patient's age/gender/race, specific body part being scanned, and other factors detailed in extensive manuals, in a matter of seconds through our RAGaaS platform, making every sonographer an expert on calibration, which normally takes years of training. Naysayers fixated on the narrative of an "AI bubble" are too shortsighted, failing to see the long-term strategic value that GenAI brings to the table. The skepticism mirrors early doubts about the Internet's viability or the impact of smartphones, both of which have become indispensable in modern life. Like these technological epochs, GenAI represents a leap forward that we are only beginning to comprehend fully. IMHO (though I am obviously biased) the evidence is clear: GenAI is not a speculative bubble but a cornerstone of the next wave of digital transformation. As leaders in the GenAI space, it's our responsibility to steer this technology toward ethical, equitable, and sustainable applications that can benefit society at large. But make no mistake, GenAI is the future—and it's a future full of promise, potential, and profound transformation.

Starting an AI company in India is no joke. Despite the AI boom, VC ticket sizes here are tiny compared to Silicon Valley, and nobody wants to invest in R&D startups. AIM estimates a seed stage AI startup needs $7-15 million, but the cost to build a 7 billion parameter model is $2 million for compute alone. Success stories like Perplexity, which raised $15 million without training its own model, highlight the potential. India's AI startups must focus on integrating capabilities and partnering with providers. With Bengaluru rising as the Silicon Valley of the East, investors must recognize the potential and support India's talent to build for the world.
