Urgent Christmas appeal! 🎄 MySight York is facing increasing costs and a rise in demand for our services. And that is why we are asking for your support this Christmas. We have launched an urgent appeal on our Enthuse donation platform, which can be found at: https://lnkd.in/eTXRtjDP We are asking members, their friends and relatives if they can give a one-off gift this Christmas? or could you become a supporter, giving a regular amount each month? £100 provides a volunteer befriender to someone living with sight loss for all of 2024. £50 covers an appointment at our Equipment and Information Centre, where our support adviser provides tailored advice and people can try over 1000 pieces of equipment and technology. £15 helps a person living with sight loss to attend a weekly support group. Donations can be made via enthuse (as linked above), in person, by sending a cheque to our office made payable to MySight York, or we can take a donation over the phone by card. Your contribution can make a huge impact to the visually impaired people who rely on our services. We know times are hard for everyone and we are only asking that those who feel able consider donating. All donations, whatever their size, have the power to make a huge impact. In the words of that well known supermarket - every little helps!

I completely agree that it's too common for large organisations in the charity sector to take over contracts from small, community-led groups. This undermines the unique value these smaller organisations, driven by lived experience, bring. It's time for the government and stakeholders to recognise their importance and provide them with more leadership and representation opportunities. These grassroots organisations do the hard work and achieve the results, yet larger entities often take the credit and financial gains. Supporting and empowering small, lived experience organisations is crucial for fostering genuine community engagement and impactful services.
Today I heard yet another story of a large charity parachuting in and taking the contract of a small, local, user and community led charity. When will public services recognise the value of smaller, people centred and user led organisations and not just number on a piece of paper. I see this ever day in my work, but today has been particularly difficult to hear. Some may disagree with me but the system is very broken.

What a fantastic Cleveland Corporate Challenge season we had at The Albert M. Higley Co.! This annual event brings the thrill of competition along with comradery and fun! Placing 3rd in Division 2 was a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our amazing participants and volunteers, and we're beaming with pride. Most of all, we are happy that our placement allowed us to donate to the charity of our choice - ACE Mentor Program Cleveland. Are you making the most of Gift Aid from Rags? Did you know it’s estimated that around 10% of income across the charity sector comes from rags? Yet the fluctuating prices, varying levels collected each week, and logistics of running a separate system can make it notoriously difficult to capture this extra revenue. That’s why we’ve developed Gift Aid on Rags, a HMRC-recognised route to collecting Gift Aid on rags and a way to safeguard this important revenue stream for your cause. To find out more about ChariotWeb and how it could elevate your charity, get in touch! #epos #epossystem #charityshop
