What isn't said is just as important as what is said. The best leaders have a high level of emotional intelligence. Want to improve yours? Self-management: The ability to control your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. 3. Social awareness: The ability to understand and respond to the emotions, thoughts, and needs of others. 4. Relationship management: The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with others. 5. Active listening: The ability to focus on what someone is saying, without judgment, and to communicate that you understand. 6. 2 things I have learned that have helped me become a better leader: 1): Empathy People need to know that you are in their corner. Stephen Covey (in the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People by Steven Covey) talks about this. He mentions that it is more important to seek understanding than to be understood. Great leaders take time to understand those around them. 2) Clarity This ties in with empathy. If you take the time to understand others, you will have the opportunity to clarify any misunderstandings. Take time to ask questions for clarification. And then clearly set objectives Don’t wait to be more empathetic and don’t assume everyone is on the same page. Seek that understanding of others perceptions and your teams will be successful. Honestly - these are things i still work on every day
