The First #Bizjet To Go Transatlantic. In the early 1970s, French aircraft manufacturer #Dassault noticed a strong demand for long-range #businessjets in the United States. The world's first transatlantic prototype business jet, the Dassault #Falcon50, made its maiden flight on November 7, 1976, from #Bordeaux-Mérignac. In keeping with the regulations inherent to transporting the public, Dassault decided to fit the aircraft with three #GarrettTFE731 turbofans instead of the #Falcon20’s two General Electric CF700s. Adding a #thirdengine provided a couple of fundamental benefits. First, the aircraft had additional thrust needed to operate from airports with shorter runways. Second, twin-engine jets were deemed unsafe to fly #transatlantic at the time, but #quadjets and #trijets could do so - designing the Falcon 50 with #threeengines made it a safe choice to cross the pond. Staying true to the plane's fighter jet DNA following the maiden flight, the aircraft was fit with innovative supercritical wings. The new wings turned out to be a technological breakthrough that could, with minor adjustments, also be used on the later #Falcon900 and #Falcon2000. During its 27-year production run between 1976 & 2008, Dassault manufactured 248 Falcon 50s & 99 #Falcon50EX. The Falcon 50EX was replaced by the slightly larger #Falcon7X and the #Falcon900. At MHICA, building fuselages for Bombardier aircraft is one of our key projects. ✈️✈️ But what exactly is a fuselage? It's the main body of an aircraft! Derived from the Latin "fusus" meaning "spindle," it refers to the central tube-like structure of an airplane. Precision craftsmanship goes into every inch. #MHICA #MHICanada #OntarioAerospace #Aviation #OntarioAerospaceIndustry
