Reflecting on a Remarkable Project Journey 🌟 What happens when four high school students are determined to make a difference? Our journey began with a simple question: How can we collaborate with a refugee school to bring unity? After thoughtful consideration, we discovered a common interest: football. ⚽ With the support of our school and sheer determination, we organized football events that brought together individuals aged 13-45 from diverse backgrounds. The impact was immediate and profound… We listened to their stories, shared interests, and forged meaningful connections. Witnessing the smiles and friendships among the teenagers from the refugee school was truly inspiring. Our first event drew in 40 participants, affirming the power of inclusivity and shared passion. 🏆 Encouraged by its success, we organized another event, further solidifying bonds and understanding. Leaving the refugee school in capable hands, we were thrilled to see our junior students replicate our project, fostering continued engagement and unity within the community. 🚀 This experience was eye-opening, teaching us invaluable lessons in empathy, collaboration, and the transformative power of collective action. Dance & Movement--the healer: While I was preparing to apply for the Fulbright award during 2020, I found this wonderful research that changed how I taught dance. This research that was carried out in Colombia absolutely informed how I used dance and choreography as a connector and a community builder. The purpose of the Dunna project was to help inhabitants recover from dealing with armed conflict. Many of the healing points applied to helping create community and connection after the pandemic. As we celebrate the inaugural International Day of Play, it's crucial to recognize that not all children have equal access to the joy and learning that #play brings. We must acknowledge that, today, millions of children are living in unimaginable circumstances, deprived of the safety, security, and play that every child deserves. As we celebrate the importance of play, let's not lose sight of the stark realities that many children face. The grim reality is that globally, around 1 in 6 children live in a #conflict zone, with many displaced from their homes or separated from their families and many times even orphaned. In addition to this, the number of child #refugees has increased tenfold in the last decade. This is heartbreaking and one that demands urgent action. Although the reality of conflict is gut-wrenching, we must not let it overshadow the importance of the International Day of Play. Instead, let's view this day as a call to action, a reminder that every child, regardless of circumstance, deserves to experience the joy of play. We should strive towards a world where children's rights are not only protected but also nurtured, where every child can not only survive but also #thrive. Generational change starts small, and it starts with us! Policy change is vital, but it's often the mundane, innocuous actions, mindsets and conversations in our own communities that move the needle over generations - one way or another. Educators do this vital work for my and your kids every single day, and speaking to them as part of my role, I know that openly supporting these steps, however small, matters! Support where you can, with encouragement, questions and suggestions. The more we openly acknowledge that we care about justice at a personal level, the more likely things will shift.

On this International Social Justice Day, the Mind-Nature Institute joins you and echoes for comprehensive #planning. If we can consider water dams ( in the photo) as a source for watering cattle and other domestic animals. In that case, we can also consider having clean #water and protected community swimming areas for the children. As you can see, swimming is not a luxury for the selected few. Just an example. Indeed #socialjustice requires considering the various aspects of an #environment.
