Author of "A Lesser Mortal: The Unexpected Life of Sarah B. Cochran" | Owner, Common Knowledge, LLC | Experienced Corporate and Nonprofit Professional
I shared Sarah B. Cochran's story because most people have heard of her famous male business competitor, Henry Clay Frick, but I grew up with Sarah's story, and it helped to shape my ideas about #business, #philanthropy and #businesscareers. Add your own inspiring female historical figure to the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum's online form so the organization can tell a more complete American historical narrative. And if you want to learn about my book and presentations I've given about Sarah, please visit my profile. #businesshistory #womenshistory #pennsylvania #suffrage #education

The theme of Saluting our Sisters #WEMATTER highlights the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities. Our appreciation to Cherron Inko-Tariah MBE for coining this year’s Black History Month theme. I featured yesterday in the CSRF Saluting our Sisters Series: a spotlight on me, my work with the award winning Cross Government Junior Leaders Networking Events, my baby loss experience, the importance of baby loss awareness week and my new Memoir, Believe: my story of baby loss, finding hope and trusting again. I had a great conversation with the one and only remarkable Justin Placide - Co-Chair of The Civil Service Race Forum . Many thanks for the opportunity. It was an amazing session with a super engaging audience. They described the session as powerful, heart-warming discussion, informative, enlightening, beautiful insight, and useful session with life’s learnings. This lovely comment from Jamila made my day – I can’t wait to read your book, Thank you Justin and Funke for an inspirational event. One of the best I have ever attended. One of the questions Justin asked - how can we ensure this theme becomes an ongoing narrative? Here are my thoughts. The power of one - it starts with me and it starts with you. Intentionality – we must consciously incorporate this into our day to day lives, not just a once in a year affair. Culture of celebration – let’s celebrate one another. In the small things, in the big things and in all things. Let’s speak about each other behind closed doors. Let’s support each other. Let’s promote each other. My sister’s win is my win too. Would love to hear yours. Do leave it in the comment below.
