📣 The latest report "Serbia and the 2030 Agenda - Mapping the National Strategic Framework in Relation to the Sustainable Development Goals" 🌐 by the Public Policy Secretariat is out now ❗ The report provides a comprehensive overview of the current national planning documents in relation to each of the 17 SDGs of the 2030 Agenda, grouped according to clusters and negotiation chapters within the European integration process. The report includes a review and analysis of more than 100 planning documents by December 2023. As the report’s findings show, most of the valid planning documents are relevant to achieving the SDGs 🎯 "The latest mapping of the planning framework in relation to the 2030 Agenda shows that the coverage of the sustainable development goals and targets by the planning framework of the Republic of Serbia is 82.7%" says Bojana Tošić, Director of the Public Policy Secretariat/ Republički sekretarijat za javne politike RSJP. According to the global Sustainable Development Report 2023, Serbia ranks 36th out of 166 countries. Serbia will continue to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through a series of measures and activities, reaffirming its sustained commitment to improving the living conditions of all its citizens in all three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, environmental protection and social inclusion. This political determination of Serbia is based on analyzes of the planning framework related to the achievement of 17 SDGs and relevant data, and was also confirmed at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals held in September last year in New York, where transformative and accelerated actions to meet the goals set until 2030 were presented. The preparation of the report "Serbia and the 2030 Agenda - Mapping the National Strategic Framework in Relation to the Sustainable Development Goals" has been supported by the Public Finance Reform – 2030 Agenda project, which is financed by the governments of Germany and Switzerland. Making Finance Work for the People and the Planet… Delighted to contribute yesterday, the 29th of July in Civil20 of G20 Summit at #Jaipur (29-31 July 2023) as one of the discussant of the panel on “Making Finance Work for the People and the Planet” organised by Special Committee on Financial Issues of Civil20 of G20 under India’s Presidency 2023. The panel comprised of: · Riccardo Moro- Secretary General, LVIA, Italy, · Jyotsna Sitling - Member of SEBI Advisory Committee on Social Stock Exchange, India · Irvan T. Harja - Prakarsa, Indonesia The panel was moderated by Deepti George, Deputy Executive Director, Dvara Research, who has been steering conversations on Financial Issues of the Civil20 under India’s Presidency of G20. The concern over the high costs coupled with mounting sovereign debts of developing and transitioning economies in meeting SDG goals, especially in dealing with the climate change was discussed at the backdrop of ‘One Earth and One Future’, and the issues to be addressed in multilateral funding regime for addressing these concerns was the highlight of the discussion. Panel members discussed on funding principles. Emphasised the need to move away from solution driven funding principle to working on co-building local solutions for sustainability. It is high time to recognize myriads of innovative action on social and institutional innovation for peer/self disciplining of public at large. Since there is a lot of trade-off between equity and environment in dealing with our endangered commons, it is important to shift funding practices for localisation and let proximate social leadership emerge and function to build climate resilient societies. Role of the Govt. as a Regulator, as a Facilitator and as a Market Participant in promoting Solidarity Economy for Localization and in promoting Equity and Inclusion was also on the highlight. #C20G20 #SoverignDebt #PublicParticipation #ClimateFinancing #SolidarityEconomy #Locaisation #localcommunity

Climate Mobilizer | Founder of the We Sign On campaign with +500k Signers | Finance and Business Leader
We need more of this. They used to say, ‘all politics is local.’ Today, we need to start seeing that all climate solutions are local. Local governments - from major cities down to tiny villages - are in the ideal position to address the causes of, and prepare for the effects of the climate crisis. This is the level at which climate change goes from being an abstract concept, to an urgent need in our own backyards. This is where solutions can be deployed efficiently, where a tight feedback loop allows iterations to be rolled out quickly. And moreover, it’s a level of government that will see unprecedented growth over the coming decades. The UN global population report tells us that we are in the midst of a historic shift toward urban areas, and that that shift will not be slowing down any time soon. With that shift, urban areas are becoming central to climate goals and agreements. But the “urban areas” they refer to are not just major cities. In the US, they are more akin to Metropolitan Statistical Areas, which contain hundreds of smaller forms of government - townships, villages, reservations. Every one of these bodies has the power to introduce climate solutions that can inspire and inform similar solutions throughout a region. Eventually, as those solutions are iterated and improved upon, good policy has been shown to trickle outward and upward throughout a region, and possibly, around the world. But for too long, local governments have been left out of the conversation. It’s good to see that changing with opportunities like President Biden’s IRA, and now, the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Group on Local and Regional Government. With voices closer to the ground, it’s my hope that we begin to see a more practical path forward - rooted in voices that are better acquainted with how the climate crisis is taking shape, and how solutions can be implemented, in their own backyards. Last Tuesday, our Executive Director, Nuno Moreira da Cruz, participated in the conference Paving The Way To The Pact of The Future, promoted by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and SDSN Portugal. The event brought together experts to contribute to the Summit of the Future. It mobilized the higher education and innovation sector, as well as Portuguese society in general, towards the urgency and opportunities of sustainable development. 📈 According to Nuno, "Companies will always need to be in the epicenter of the so-needed change. Beyond GDP, in the corporate world, translates into beyond P&L. We need to be able to account for the externalities they cause”. During the Conference, the 2024 Sustainable Development Report, developed by the UN SDSN, was also launched. It can be downloaded at: https://lnkd.in/du4zXZKn. #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs
