When I took the helm as Chairman of Amélie Les Huîtres, I faced an extraordinary challenge. The brand was in dire straits: saddled with debt, embroiled in a judicial recovery process, and a legacy of unserved clients and unpaid employees. This period became a master class in corporate restructuring for me. We tackled the debt, streamlined operations, knocked 3 subsidiaries and devised a fresh, viable strategy. Our journey was fuelled by renewed capital from existing shareholders, who believed in our vision to set sail anew ⛵️. We've not just survived; we've flourished, securing partnerships with elite names like Gritti, Four Seasons, Mandarin, and Bulgari in prestigious locales from St. Moritz to Singapore. 🔍 Our transformation hinged on crafting a new model of agile, effective global sales force and revolutionizing our marketing approach. The result? A legacy of excellence and leadership in global markets. We closed 2023 with the historic integration of our main supplier, Huitres Lambert. This merger not only ensures control over quality and margins but also unifies our strengths under the Groupe Ostrea umbrella, managing two distinct brands: Amélie and Lambert. 🌏 As we step into 2024, my focus as Chairman of Groupe Ostrea is clear. Our next challenge is to sculpt a luxury oyster group driven by CSR values, aiming for a 15% EBITDA and rapid growth. Baker McKenzie Switzerland advised Lalique Group SA on the acquisition of a 75% stake in the preeminent wine estate Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey for a purchase price of EUR 18 million. With this acquisition, Lalique will further develop synergies with the crystal and hospitality business. Meanwhile, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey will benefit from increased visibility and will be able to raise its profile with existing and new target groups. According to BDC, 86% of businesses with an advisory board say it has a significant impact on their businesses. In companies with advisory boards, this same study saw sales up 24% and a productivity increase of 18%. Joann Cheng, the chairman and CEO of Lanvin Group, the Chinese luxury firm that owns LANVIN, Wolford and Sergio Rossi, is stepping down. She will be succeeded in the CEO role by Eric Chan, a senior executive at a subsidiary of Lanvin-parent Fosun Group. Huang Zhen, another Fosun Group director, will take over as chairman. Despite its ambitions to grow into a luxury powerhouse, Lanvin Group has failed to win over investors. It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in December of last year via SPAC, a process in which investors pile money into a blank-cheque company and later look for a target company to merge with. However, some 97 percent of shares in the SPAC were redeemed once Lanvin Group was identified as its merger target, meaning investors overwhelmingly asked for their funds to be returned and that they did not view Lanvin Group to be a good investment. The company’s growth ambitions have been stymied by frequent leadership changes on both the executive and creative side. Read more below:

LOOKING TO EXIT YOUR BUSINESS? Started working on your financial, operational and legal due diligence? Is your M&A Consultant on-board to help you pack it up? I've had several very interesting discussions with business owners that are ready to exit their businesses and with M&A consultants that help them through the process. Interestingly, not one of them mentioned the need to also clean up and focus on brand equity and marketing solidity, or what I'd like to call working through the 'Brand & Marketing Due-Diligence' aspects of the M&A process. Not one. Why is this important though? To a potential buyer, BRAND EQUITY is about presence, consistency, clarity, wide placement & acceptance, class, audience clarity, positioning etc. This applies for forward and backward commercial planning. MARKETING SOLIDITY is about clear & sensible in-process go-to-market plans/tactics, clear use-cases, a strong sales pipe, a low churn rate, an acceptable CAC and so on. Wouldn't these really matter to a potential acquirer? Of course it would. It must! Let me offer more on these. Here're are 5 branding and marketing essentials (I can list many more, but those are for another time) to work on that can bowl over a potential acquisition suitor and show him that you've got this space covered superbly: 1. Strengthen Brand Identity: Ensure the brand is well-defined and consistently communicated across all channels. Invest in marketing efforts to enhance brand recognition and loyalty. 2. Expand Customer Base: Diversify the customer base to reduce dependency on a few key clients. Highlight customer satisfaction and loyalty metrics to potential buyers. 3. Optimize Product/Service Portfolio: Ensure the product or service offerings are competitive and aligned with market demands. Consider innovations or improvements that can add value. 4. Nail Market Position: Increase market share through strategic initiatives such as partnerships, acquisitions, or geographic expansion. Highlight the company’s competitive advantages. 5. Customer Testimonials and Case Studies: Collect and showcase positive testimonials and case studies from satisfied customers. These can provide tangible proof of the company's value proposition. A new era of L’OCCITANE Group is upon us. The company — which has been listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange since 2010 — announced a privatisation offer on April 29, with Blackstone and Goldman Sachs providing funding for a $1.8 billion take-private transaction that values the company at $6.4 billion. The offer follows months of speculation: In August 2023, reports surfaced that Reinold Geiger, the company’s chair and majority shareholder, was considering a buyout with shares being temporarily halted from trading as a result – on announcing those plans were shelved, its share price dropped 30 percent. Shares were halted indefinitely on Apr. 9, following a Bloomberg report that privatisation was again imminent. Often, companies spend years preparing for an initial public offering, as becoming a public company means punching in a heavier weight class. But L’Occitane’s hands have become tied with limited growth opportunities. In a statement, Geiger said, “The transaction we are launching today will enable us to focus on rebuilding the foundation for the long-term sustainable growth of our company.” Privatising now is indicative of a different kind of growing pains.
