Today our business signed the Better Business Act, (with thank to Bruno Scott for highlighting). Whilst we're already a B Corp, affirming our own intentions, we believe that all UK businesses should be considering and meeting their obligations to people and planet, as well as profit. We think you should look into this, too. And with a likely change of Government, now's the moment to increase the volume on this https://lnkd.in/gBqhbVx

A movement you want to be part of. If you don't have time to click through and get curious (which I'd really recommend) then here you go ... a synopsis.. #Betterbusinessact #coalition #collaboration #businessesmatters #future #leadership #directors #timeforchange "The world needs business at its best - helping to fix urgent problems like climate change and inequality. The Better Business Act would transform the way Britain does business so that every single company takes ownership of its social and environmental impact. At a time when we face many urgent challenges, we want to change the law so that it is no longer an option for business to pursue profit at the expense of workers, communities and the environment. By amending Section 172 of the Companies Act, we will update the job description for company directors, making it their responsibility to protect people and the planet at the same time as pursuing profit. We know that a majority of directors want this too. The amendment would provide a firm legal basis for directors to advance the interests of society and the environment alongside those of shareholders. This would in turn provide a clear framework for business to engage with the many existing initiatives that seek to drive up standards." Time to join the coalition?

Supporting the Better Business Act during the election season 🌊... As hundreds of new candidates prepare to stand in the election, now is the time to put responsible business at the top of their agenda. New research released reveals that over three quarters of the UK public (76%) believe that, more than ever before, the law needs to change to give businesses a legal responsibility to prioritise people and the planet alongside making a profit. The Better Business Act proposes just this. The more we can raise awareness of the Better Business Act and corporate governance reform, the stronger the foundation we will have when the next government comes in. Over 2,500 companies have chosen to be part of the coalition for a cleaner, greener, fairer future for all. If you haven't already, join the coalition now using the link below. https://lnkd.in/gBqhbVx #BetterBusinessAct ##WakeUptoBetterBusiness #bcorp #designforgood

This general election must be a game-changer for people and the planet. 🗳 Years of patchy regulation has exposed the UK to a series of high profile corporate failures which are worsening the climate crisis and leaving workers exposed. Whoever forms the next government must ensure it is no longer an option for business to pursue profit at the expense of workers, communities and the environment. That’s why, ahead of the general election, we’re asking everyone to back the Better Business Act. 📣 Businesses support this – nearly 3000 businesses have joined the coalition backing the change. 📣 The public supports this: new research finding 76% of the UK public believe the law needs to change to give businesses a legal responsibility to people and the planet alongside making a profit. We are calling on the next government to amend Section 172 of the Companies Act 2006, ensuring company directors align social and environmental impact with shareholder returns. Help us spread the word by sharing this post and learn more about the campaign on our website. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/gBqhbVx

I’ve previously (and very publicly) voiced my concerns about the genuine impact of becoming a B Corp company. My worry is that if it’s only the companies that are already acting, or are willing to act, transparently sign up then what is it achieving? It wasn’t that I didn’t want to participate, it was that I knew it needed to be more. Whether that was creating a community of B Corp companies who collectively put pressure on people to choose better and do better (watch this space) or something even bigger. We’ve signed up to the Better Business Act, facilitated by B Lab, to make sure that it’s not just the “good” ones who are held accountable for making a difference. We want to be part of making purpose and sustainability the law. All I’m asking is that you give it a read. The website makes it easy, and I think you’d have a tough time arguing a case against signing up immediately. This feels like something that could have real impact. Give us a chance to make a tangible change, to put the power back in the hands of the right people. Or at least limit the power of the people who don’t act in the interest of people or planet. #betterbusinessact #bcorp #sustainablebusiness Estrella Ventures
