https://lnkd.in/gF8AYpXh CNBC is looking at the reasons for the EV sales 'slow down,' vs hybrids market, but in most cases, they missed the role of limited supply and the impact of regulation. From what I said in the interview, they only mentioned my point about the role of plug-in hybrids post-2035. I would be happy to hear your thoughts on it.

My take is that the rise in hybrid sales is directly related to the increasing stringency of emissions standards. While there has long been strong consumer interest in hybrids, automakers only build them when they need them for regulatory compliance. Hybrid sales were flat from '21 to '22 when federal standards were flat. They jumped 50% from '22 to '23 when standards stringency jumped 10% and is poised to continue to increase strongly in years to come. Our 2022 car buying survey showed about 40% of car buyers were considering a hybrid, but supply was only around 5 or 6%. I haven't gone back to earlier surveys yet, but the hybrid market appears to have been undersupplied for a long time.

I’ll have to watch this later but I imagine it’s mostly about the convenience of hybrids, and reliability. No one wants to get caught on a trip with a dead battery, or have to stop and change for an hour mid trip. And hybrids get 500 + miles range while most EVs get sub 400, with a couple or exceptions. For a lot of people the hybrid is basically the devil they know, but with a bit less pain at the pump.

Um ... are they? Prius' annual sales last year were less than 10% of Tesla Model Y.
